Sawyer Ramey Sawyer Ramey 5'10" | PG Deerfield Academy | 2024 State NLG , 5’9 G – Fair Haven Union High School Class of 2023
Ramey’s surgical dissection of the BBA defense was clean and thorough. Sawyer had the ball in his hands a ton, even against BBA’s triangle and two denial, nonetheless, he showed outstanding ball security and decision making. He limited his turnovers to one, maybe two. Moreover, he had to be near 10 assists on the night. His dimes featured laser-sharp advance passes in transition and one-hand cross court snipes into shooting pockets both on the perimeter and into the interior. In addition, he showcased his three-level scoring. He had crafty takes to the cup and finished with both hands, looking ambidextrous at times. Plus, he finished looks in the mid-range plus he added a few side-step threes. All in all, Sawyer’s manipulation of the defense is uncanny. For all his offense, he was just as effective defensively. He stripped big fellas in the paint, got in passing lanes, and collected upwards of five boards. Ramey was all over this one.
Sam Barber, 5’11 G – Fair Haven Union High School Class of 2023
Electric and efficient, Barber was cooking in this one. Sam led FHUHS with 20 points on maybe eight shots. He hit numerous threes off the catch with good elevation on his jumper. Moreover, he got into the paint with incisive slashes and quick leak outs off of boards, attacking defensive gaps and finishing strongly at the rim. On the defensive end, Barber dug in against BBA guards. Sam’s on-ball defense is agile, and he worked his way through screens with good footwork. Barber is a two-way combo guard who’s most comfortable at the 2, yet he can handle the rock, defend 1-3, and he gets hot in a hurry. Sam’s been rolling lately.
Phil Bean, 6’1 W/F – Fair Haven Union High School Class of 2025
The sophomore had a lot on his plate defensively as he matched up with BBA’s primary scorer/facilitator for much of the evening. Regardless, Bean looked prepared and hungry. Phil’s interior defense is stout and physical, and he used his strong frame and anticipation to wear Ameden down, forcing him to battle for position inside. Moreover, when defending ball screens, Phil displayed clinical hedges and stifled near every ball screen action he was involved in. Bean was on the glass all night with solid box outs, plus his quick outlets sparked a number of fast break opportunities. He was efficient offensively, finishing interior looks and he showed the range with a three too. He’s a double-double threat night in and night out.
Joe Buxton, 6’3 W/F – Fair Haven Union High School Class of 2024
The dynamic Buxton showed impressive versatility on both ends. Throughout the night he defended 3-5 and he could stick with most 2’s as well. Yet I found his interior defense most effective. His length allowed him to disrupt post entries and he made shots difficult for BBA’s forwards with his clean contests. Offensively he showed some savvy too. He dropped easeful floaters and knocked down a couple threes as well. Off the ball he showed good senses as he cut into the post or relocated on the perimeter and was the beneficiary of numerous Ramey bullet-passes. Joe’s versatility was in full effect.
Will Ameden, 6’4 W/F – Burr and Burton Academy Class of 2024
Ameden’s offensive prowess was on display throughout the night. Will showed his inside/out capabilities with heads-up post cuts and flashes, plus he demonstrated a poised perimeter skill set. Off of his strong cuts and flashes into the post, Will had tons of strong single dribble takes to the rim, showcasing savvy footwork and good senses around the rim. He’s got a strong frame too which he used with control to create space for paint finishes. Moreover, he made multiple savvy slashes from the perimeter, showing nice change of pace and timing in his attack. Oh, and he has vision. He set teammates up throughout the game with quick passes to the weak side, or skip passes to hit three-point shooters. He’s a stout interior defender, can guard 3-5, and hit the boards too. Will impressed all night.
Taylor Harrington, 5’9 G – Burr and Burton Academy Class of 2024
BBA’s primary ballhandler had his work cut out for him with FHUHS’ pesky guard play. It took a little time to find his footing, but once Taylor got in rhythm, he was highly effective. Harrington got it going for himself and others with his rim attacks. He made decisive takes into the interior and read the defense quite well. Making the simple play, he hit timely kick-outs when perimeter help collapsed on him, but when he saw one-on-one coverage, he went up strong to the iron and finished looks or drew fouls. Taylor hit a couple threes off the catch as well to keep the defense honest. Solid work from the junior guard.
