Here’s list of prospects who played well while PH NorCal was in the gym. Most are new comers, while there’s a couple we hadn’t seen in a while.
Meka Okereke Meka Okereke 6'7" | SF Menlo Atherton | 2023 State CA-N 6’7 2023 PF from Menlo Atherton. We hadn’t seen the high flyer since the Summer. He transferred into MA and adds instant paint production on both ends of the court. He’ll get points in the paint, jumping over defenders, going after lobs and put-backs. He has the tools to rack up rebounds, and blocks on defense.
Mark Lavrenov Mark Lavrenov 6'8" | PF Rocklin | 2025 State CA-N 6’7 2025 Forward from Rocklin. He turned in a dominating performance at a tournament game while we were there. He’s a rising prospect in this class as he works to expand his game away from the basket, ball handling, and outside shot he did hit a 3ptr, but for now he was most effective working in and around the post area, securing rebounds, going after blocks, and scoring with a paint jumper. He had presence scoring 32pts, 11rebs, 2blks.
Nico Mego 6’7 2026 Post from Branham. He has a good set of skills for the post. He’s a good passer from the high post often finding cutters, and shooters. His footwork was decent as he used a dropped step, a jump hook, and played well off two feet in the paint, he’ll finish around the rim. He had 12pts, 5rebs, and 4asts in this game, and has helped Branham to a 12-1 record before league play.
Jacob Wrencher Jacob Wrencher 6'6" | SF Milpitas | 2025 State CA-N 6’7 2025 W/F from Milpitas. He’s a long wiry prospect with a versatile skill set. He has a nice frame to add muscle. His ball handling, willingness to pass, and vision makes him a versatile prospect in the open court, and up top as a facilitator who can create for himself and others. He can finish in the paint, hit the mid-range, and knock down 3’s. He had 18pts, 5rebs, 4asts and 2blks.
Marci Safranka 6’7 2023 G/F from Oakwood. He plays with a mixture of scoring inside and out. He has the size, and ability to be an effective scorer in the paint, while having the ability to step out on the perimeter to hit jumpers from angles and the short corner jumper, using his dribble from perimeter to the paint. He turned in a double double with 19pts, 10rebs in a tournament game we watched.
Mathew Gallagher 6’1 2023 CG from Monterey. He put together an impressive showing leading his team in a come from behind win. He has the guards skills to facilitate when called upon, his ability to break down a defender and get into the paint for points or assists was key. He was effective off the ball attacking from the sides challenging defenders. He’s good in open space. His 22pts helped get the win.
Greg Thompson 6’5 2023 G/F from Kimball. He’s a strong looking prospect with good athleticism on the court. He has good hops to throw one down unexpectedly. He handles on the wing with some abilities to get into the paint, and finish with balance using a euro step at times to avoid the charge. He’s puts a good effort into rebounding. He had 17pts, 8rebs, in the game we attended.
Keyshawn Hunt 6’0 2024 PG from Pittsburg. He’s a thin slick handling point guard with good quickness to get defenders off balance. He can get into the paint with his dribble. He does a good job of running the teams offense. He’s a willing passer with the vision to find cutters and shooters on the perimeter. He can hit the floater and spot up in the corner for 3’s. 16pts, 4asts, 2stls.
Drew Molinari 5’10 2024 SG from Palma. He had the hot hand throughout the game. He dropped 6, 3ptrs in the game. 3 in the first half, and kept it going with 3 more in the second half. His point total was 21pts. He runs the court well looking to spot up in the corners and along the perimeter. He’s a decent handler, moves the ball, with solid passing. He plays with good energy.
Jon Taylor 6’0 2023 CG from King’s Academy. He’s a savvy guard not real fast, decent handles, and plays at a good pace. He gets the job done for this team up top mixing scoring and facilitating. He pushes in transition using a hard dribble. He has a floater and paint jumper. He has the vision to find shooters on the perimeter. He has a good mid-range jumper from the top off the dribble. He contributed 12pts, 5stls.
Nate Wong 5’10 2023 PG from Carlmont. He plays with good intensity on the court. He has good speed and solid handles in transition. He attacks the rim hard off the dribble going left or right unafraid of contact. He’s a good 3pt shooter, he had 3 in this game, he found his rhythm. He was the games leading scorer with 22pts.
