Tyner Academy vs. Walker Valley

Halfway through December Rodney “Boo” Henderson (pictured above) and his Rams traveled to Walker Valley High School. The game involved many potential college basketball players. First, read a smidgen about the game itself and then observe each player’s ideal college level.

Tyner Roster
#0 Biship Smith (2024)
#2 Rodney Henderson Rodney Henderson Rodney Henderson 6'0" | PG Tyner Academy | 2025 State TN III* (2025)
#4 Nehemiah Bloodsaw Nehemiah Bloodsaw Nehemiah Bloodsaw 6'2" | SG Tyner Academy | 2023 State TN * (2023)
#5 Nick Smith Nick Smith Nick Smith 6'2" | SG Tyner Academy | 2023 State TN * (2023) 6’1″ 175
#10 Ricky Harper (2025) PG/SG
#15
#23 Josh Jackson (2023) 6’4″ 208
#25
#30 Javion Dixson (2024)

Gme Nehemiah’s free throws against Walker Valley were beautiful.

Biship Smith gives Coach EJ Ward some defensive depth. The junior is always playing with active hands and quick feet. The team does not need another point guard, per se, but they sure have a reliable, dynamic one in Smith.

Game Recap

Tayvon Barber Tayvon Barber Tayvon Barber 5'10" | PG Walker Valley | 2023 State TN is as efficient as ever. Very sharp cuts with the basketball. Understands his role and never over-penetrates or overextends himself. Very smart basketball player.

Walker Valley amassed a 22-point lead early fourth quarter, 57-35.

Hobart Brabson sprinted into the lane with ease. His finish under the basket made an easy two for a dominant Walker Valley team. The Walker Valley offense, in general, worked disturbingly effectively against Tyner’s guards and wings. The Rams of Tyner did not make good adjustments or reactions to the predictable off-ball cuts. They did not deny kick-out passes either.

Interestingly, Rodney Broadnax Rodney Broadnax Rodney Broadnax 6'5" | PF Cleveland | 2023 TN played major minutes for Walker Valley. This is his first season playing for the He grew up as a Cleveland High talent both as a football and basketball player. Now a senior, RB will be critical in the district rebounding battles to come.

Caleb Sausville is the younger brother of Seth, a departed, graduated Walker Valley Mustang. Ok handle. Needs to become more physically imposing .

FINAL: 66-51, Walker Valley.

College Prospects

Nehemiah Bloodsaw Nehemiah Bloodsaw Nehemiah Bloodsaw 6'2" | SG Tyner Academy | 2023 State TN – NAIA+
Rodney Henderson Rodney Henderson Rodney Henderson 6'0" | PG Tyner Academy | 2025 State TN – D2+

Biship Smith – ?
Nick Smith Nick Smith Nick Smith 6'2" | SG Tyner Academy | 2023 State TN – D3

Hobart projects as an NAIA-level combo guard thanks to his size for the position and agility. Facing Tyner, Brabson was still able elude defenders and out-quick guys, which is saying something. Brabson’s weakness has historically been long-range shooting. In the contest against Tyner Academy, Brabson did not take (m)any three-pointers.

Rodney Henderson Rodney Henderson Rodney Henderson 6'0" | PG Tyner Academy | 2025 State TN was too patient in this game. His greatest skills are dribbling and making layups. RH is a good athlete, but incredible like typical mid- to high-D1 players. Low major or elite DII will be his landing spot, unless he becomes an undeniable three-point shooter on top of his elite slashing and composure.
