Starting with the Prep School Division on Dec 16th the event runs all the way until the Finals of the Platinum division on Dec 22nd. Best thing about the event is the fact that it has different brackets, allowing teams to compete against comparable competition. I spent the last two days visiting the various locations, checking on some local prospects, here’s a look at their Evals.
Lea really impressed me with his impact on the defensive end. Scrappy guard that got steals, and showed the ability to create for his teammates in transition.
Rayford is an active forward that impacts the game in a variety of ways. A glue guy type, he was able to get rebounds, and get out into the passing lanes and get defelctions and steals. Moves well and did a good job on the receiving end of his teams fast breaks.
Undersized big with good athticism and finishing skills. Has stretched his game out, with both his shooting and ball skills. Tatum is now more of a faceup four type, as opposed to a solely back to the basket scorer.
Long arm combo guy with good two way ability. Plays with a good pace, allowing his team’s offense to play in rhythm. His best skill may be his unselfishness, as the ball didn’t seem to stick in his hands. Good finisher, with good positional size.
Highlights
Has increased his upper frame, and has the ability to be a shut down on ball defender. A drive first PG that shoots it out to about 18ft. He has the strength and grittyness to compete for offensive rebounds.
High IQ undersized 4 man with good low post skills. Valencia has stretched his game out, showing the ability to space the floor from the three point range. A below the rim scorer, he plays with tremendous patience, has soft hands and is able to finish through contact.
Three point shooting glue guy. Knolls best skill is his ability to knock down outside shots, however he provides value to his team with his defense, his ability to win 50/50 loose balls and rebounds. High level young glue guy that that impacts games even if his shot is not falling.
High Academic, clutch outside shooter. Castillero is known for his shooting, however he gets bouns points for his ability to make timely shots. The junior sniper hit several run killing threes in the game I saw. With his academics, three point shooting and competition level faced, he’ll be an intriguing prospect for someone.
Highlights
Athletic combo guard with good basketball instincts. He’s improved his outside shooting remarkably, showing the ability to knock down threes in catch and shoot situations. His value is his ability to create and finish, both for himself and his team. It is not uncommon to see him as both the passer and receiver of the Alley-Opp.
