Hogan Prep took home the championship with a victory over Maryville on Saturday night. Here is a look at the top guards and wings from the Savannah Tournament.
Ryker Edwards Ryker Edwards 6'0" | SG Smithville | 2023 State MO (Smithville): The 6’2″ 2023 guard has an excellent combination of explosive athleticism and the ability to score from all three levels. He could lay back for a few minutes and let the game come to him, then he would go off on a 10-point spurt by himself. He can knock down 3-pointers off the bounce, attack the basket with strength and throw down some impressive transition dunks. He’s a bucket.
Michael Smith Jr. Michael Smith Jr. 6'2" | PG Hogan Prep | 2024 State MO (Hogan Prep): A 6’2″ 2024 point guard who had an impressive week in leading Hogan Prep to the championship of the tournament. He is long and lean and he did an excellent job of slithering into the lane for buckets and drop offs for assists. He displayed scoring ability from all three levels as he could hit the mid-range and the high-arching 3-pointer.
Caden Stoecklein Caden Stoecklein 6'0" | PG Maryville | 2023 State MO (Maryville): A 6’0″ 2023 point guard who has good physical strength and a nice feel for the game. He used his body well to operate in tight spaces and score on tough drives, especially when he got to his dominant left hand. He also had a nice shooting stroke from 3-point range, which he could shoot off the dribble.
Peyton McCollom (Maryville): A 5’11” 2024 guard who had an excellent performance in the game I watched him against Platte County. He scored a game high 21 points and he lit it up from 3-point range. He made five 3-pointers in that first-round victory. His shooting stroke is smooth and he can also handle the ball and make solid passes.
Griff Bonderer (Chillicothe): A 6’3″ 2023 wing who has a strong body and a versatile skill set, which makes him a matchup problem. He has 3-point shooting range, but he is very good at getting to the basket and scoring on tough, physical drives inside.
Derek Quinlan (Maryville): A 6’1″ 2023 guard who was one of the top 3-point shooters that I watched during the four first round games. He scored 18 points, which included five 3-pointers. In addition to his excellent shooting, he was also a very good defensive player with good instincts and positioning. He was able to get plenty of deflections.
Toby Ford (Smithville): A 6’3″ 2024 wing who is a knock down shooter from downtown. The lefty has range that extends well beyond the 3-point line. He has a quick release and he has the knack of hitting timely triples in key parts of the game when his team needs it.
Davin Hanna Davin Hanna 6'1" | PG Kearney | 2024 State MO (Kearney): The 5’11” 2024 guard had an impressive opening night, when he scored 21 points in a victory over Savannah. He has good fundamentals as he plays well under control. He scored on a variety of floaters and flip shots in the lane and he was also knocking down 3-pointers.
Judah Vignery Judah Vignery 6'4" | SG Platte County | 2024 State MO (Platte County): A 6’4″ 2024 wing player with good length and solid handles. He had a very nice spin move, which he used when he got into the lane to get a bucket. He also uses his size to be a factor as a rebounder.
Myles Bachali Myles Bachali 6'2" | SG St. Joe Benton | 2025 State MO (Benton): A talented 6’2″ 2025 guard who has the ability to score in a variety of ways. He uses his speed well in open court to score in transition. He moves well off the ball as he comes off down screens to hit the 3-pointer. He can also get a bucket off the dribble with a nice escape move.
Zayden Snapp (Savannah): A 6’3″ 2024 wing who had good athleticism and played with a lot of activity. He had a quick first step to basket with the ability to finish in the lane. His mid-range shot was effective and he also hit an open 3-pointer off the catch.
