@PrepHoopsTN Fall Combine Evaluations: Part XII

Exceptional on-ball defense. No camper slid his feet better and Owen. Lentz’ size is 6-foot-0, and though he is in good fitness, his stature is unequivocally small by high school basketball standards. As a freshman, this is not unique. Many freshmen are built like him, but not a single participant defended with his tenacity. Nobody played with more precision. Owen is the younger brother of Luke Lentz, a Class of 2022 Webb School graduate.
What similarities are there between Luke and Owen? They both play guard. Luke could play point guard, but Knox Webb often asked him to play the wing next to Jaylon Green. LL provided the team with elite outside shooting and measured playmaking. Owen shares much of the skills of Luke, though he might be more gritty and grimy at this early stage. Owen showed no hesitation putting his body in the way of slashers. He was perfectly comfortable defending with his chest and absorbing contact.
How can Lentz improve his game? Lentz can become even more explosive vertically. His quickness with the change of direction is wonderful, and augmented by his sharp basketball mind. He often makes decisions that put him in the “right” place before an opponent. Lentz was also one of the best passers in the building. Maybe, he could become more vocal. He could become a leader with not just actions but words, as well. For a freshman hooper, he is absurdly advanced in the skill department.
Alex Leeth | F | Knox Webb | 2026
How did he measure against the competition?
- Class of 2026
- 6’7″
- Hand Span — 9.0″
- Standing Reach — 101″ or 8’5″
- Hand Length — 8.0″
- Shoe Size — 12
- 3/4 Court Sprint (65′ not 75′ NBA distance) — 3.07, 3.07
- Lane Agility — 13.40, 13.53
- Camp Ranking — #12
Alex Leeth suffered an injury just before Lunch Break. His measurements, both timing and sizes, did get completed, but there was almost no drill-work for evaluation. Further, Leeth did not participate get to participate in the fullcourt runs. What was made clear during his morning participation was Leeth is unusually athletic, springy, and superbly tall for his age. Well, 6-foot-7 is tall for every age.
Leeth is light on his feet, which makes his future prospects all the more exciting. Instead of maneuvering like a plodding, tall young man, Leeth dashed with the elegance of a college athlete albeit still young and very thin. A fawn.
At 3.07 seconds, Leeth’s 3/4-sprint twice achieved set the event on fire! Only six campers ran faster both times than Leeth.
For Leeth, the game will begin with wonderful speed and mid-air acrobatics. From there the evolution will be adding bulk to defend back-to-basket bigs forcefully. Extending his shooting range and expanding his basketball knowledge base are assumed steps in his progression.
