There were some great individual performances that went on the first days of the break in some big local contests. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will look at some of the players who impressed with their play during the beginning of the Christmas break.
Konnor Cotton (6’2″ | Calvary Baptist)
Even though Calvary went 1-1 during big games during the week, they have gotten some great play from Konnor Cotton. The Calvary wing played high level defense by converting steals into points against a highly ranked Evangel team. He followed that up by shooting well from three and leading the Cavs with 18 points against Huntington. Cotton is playing both ends of the floor well and at a high level which bodes well for Calvary.
Rondae Hill (5’11” | Calvary Baptist)
Hill had a good week showing he is becoming one of the premiere point guards in the area. Against Evangel, Rondae showed that he could shoot the three well and he intercepted passes in various passing lanes. He did the same thing against Huntington on the defensive end showing that he is a good two-way point guard.
Jeremiah Evans Jeremiah Evans 6'10" | C Southwood | 2024 State #249 Nation LA (6’9″ | Southwood)
The Southwood big man had a monster game against JS Clark Leadership on Tuesday. Evans had a 20 and 10 game begin a commanding presence in the paint. He was aggressive going to the basket and attacked the smaller Bulldog defenders when he finished at the rim. His five blocks also showed Evans was in control of the paint as well.
Caleb Williams (5’10” | Parkway)
Parkway’s youth movement showed up in a big way in their home gym on Wednesday in the form of Caleb Williams. The freshman point guard scored 19 points and showed that he can do more than fire away from three. Williams was lethal in transition dropping dimes at the proper time for teammates to finish. He is definitely a guard to watch going forward.
Malaki J. Thomas Malaki J. Thomas 6'4" | SF Calvary Baptist | 2023 State LA (6’3″ | Calvary Baptist)
Thomas showed the depth of his versatility during both games during the week. He is the Cavs inside threat and rebounds the ball like a 6’8″ power forward. Thomas used his inside game to score and rebound well against the Eagles on Monday. On Thursday, he defended Decedric Webb Decedric Webb 6'5" | SF Huntington | 2023 State LA using his strength and smarts. He is a very good player and knows his role.
Lakavin Thomas Lakavin Thomas 6'0" | CG Bossier | 2023 State LA (6’2″ | Bossier)
Thomas seems like he has been playing for Bossier forever. On Wednesday night, he reminded people why he has been playing at the varsity level since his freshmen year. Thomas consistently got to the middle of the Gator defense and either finished at the rim or got fouled. His 15 point game led the Bearkats to victory over the Gators.
Chris Carpenter Chris Carpenter 5'9" | PG Huntington | 2023 State LA (5’9″ | Huntington)
The Huntington point guard had a good game showing his full skill set. Carpenter likes to use the dribble and when he had one-on-one situations, he routinely got to the rim. He often found shooters for open threes and he made aggressive passes that ended up getting teammates layups either in the half court or transition. His court awareness makes him difficult to stop.
Chance Snell Chance Snell 6'2" | CG Parkway | 2023 State LA (6’3″ | Parkway)
Snell had a good game on both sides of the ball on Wednesday. He was a catalyst in the Panthers scoring 29 first quarter points creating steals and finding others. In the second half, he was aggressive going to the rim and either getting fouled or finishing at the tin. He is a good wing who can play both ends.
Brhaelyn Brown Brhaelyn Brown 6'2" | SG Parkway | 2024 State LA (6’2″ | Parkway)
Brown was highly aggressive when the game initially began. He scored from every level on the floor as the Panthers jumped out to their first quarter lead. Brown had 19 points before intermission scoring in the half court and transition. He is a very good offensive player who may be the X-factor in district play for Parkway.
These players were aggressive offensively and it showed in how they were able to score and help their team defensively. Play in northwest Louisiana will continue next week with the tournament at Airline. Look for these players to be a part of that action.
