Mt. Vernon-Plankinton
Reed Rus Reed Rus 6'3" | SG Mt. Vernon/Plankinton | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’4 G|
8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. It was not his best night shooting but it was easy to see that Rus is skilled and smart. Reed often brought the ball up the court. He was very good at moving the ball against the zone. I loved how Rus penetrated into the zone, drew two defenders, and kicked to shooters. I really liked how Reed can make 1-handed passes off the dribble with either hand. He showed great court vision and he knew when to push the pace and when to slow the tempo. He showed off his athleticism when catching in the short corner and exploding up for a score before the help could stop him. Rus also scored with a sweet floater. It was not his best game but Rus still showed that he is a serious player.
Zach Baker (2024) |5’10 G|
14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 three-pointers. He looks to be a good athlete and is very mobile. Baker is a lefty with a fluid jump shot. He has a quick release and he catches ready to shoot. Besides his 3-shooting, Zach scored with an O-board putback. He showed great reaction time on that play. Teams will have to account for Baker when he is spotting up from beyond the arc.
Mason Hetland (2023) |6’2 F|
7 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1-3 FT’s. He is a strong BIG. He was great on the boards and showed good anticipation and aggressiveness when grabbing O-boards. Early in the game, Hetland showed off his speed when he made the outlet pass, sprinted the floor, got the ball back on a fastbreak, and finished with a lefty finger roll. Around the basket, Mason is an unmovable force. There is no use fighting for position with this BIG man. Mason had a nice start to the game, he had the Titans first 5 points of the game.
Jordan Stoltz Jordan Stoltz 6'7" | SF Mt. Vernon/Plankinton | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’7 F|
20 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists. He showed off his playmaking ability with a 2-handed SLAM. Stoltz was highly productive all night. Going for 20 & 10 in the season opener is impressive! His length and long arms allowed him to gather up rebounds and block shots. Jordan’s length also allowed him to shoot and score over defenders in traffic. I liked him posting up, he spun into the lane and scored with a soft fall-away jumper. Expect many more impressive games from Stoltz!
Kimball-White Lake
Porter Miller (2023) |5’9 G|
He showed off his deep shooting range in the 2nd half with a 3-ball. Miller could potentially be a serious shooting threat.
Jaxon Christensen (2023) |6’2 F|
He is another BIG Wildkat. For a guy with his size, Jaxon looks to be a very good passer with a good feel for the game. He delivered a very nice high-low pass with great touch. When attacking the basket, Christensen drew attention, and he delivered another dime to a cutting teammate. Jaxon also showed a sweet spin move when attacking the paint.
Blake Leiferman Blake Leiferman 6'6" | C Kimball-White Lake | 2024 SD (2024) |6’5 F|
He is a very long player. Leiferman scored with a soft floater. Blake looks like he has plenty of potential to be a nice player in the near future.
Jaxon Pursell Jaxon Pursell 6'3" | PF Kimball/White Lake | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’3 F|
He is a big and thick forward. Pursell got to the FT line by drawing contact around the basket. He looks to be a smart and effective cutter. I was impressed with Jaxon’s pump fake and score.
Dawson Miller (2023) |5’11 G|
He looked to be the biggest offensive threat for the Wildkats. Dawson is a lefty with a smooth shot. Miller cashed in multiple buckets from beyond the arc. I liked the looks of his pull-up jumper. When catching and shooting, Dawson showed good footwork. He also scored via slash-n-score when weaving through traffic. Miller showed good hustle when crashing the O-boards from the perimeter.
