In the first quarter, Covenant Christian came out of the gates fast at the newly renovated GCA facility. 2023 forward Andrew Crane and 2023 guard Paxton Bacon led the Warriors with five points each as they were able to dominate the paint. 2024 guard Max Booher Max Booher 6'3" | SG Greenwood Christian | 2024 State IN had a nice and-one finish in the late for the Cougars, but it seemed like a lid was on the basket as they shot just 2-10 from the floor. Covenant Christian led 16-6 after one quarter of play including a 9-0 run to end the quarter.
Greenwood Christian started off the second quarter with a big burst of energy thanks to 2023 guard Blake Shewmaker Blake Shewmaker 6'3" | SG Greenwood Christian | 2023 State IN . Shewmaker hit a three and had a pair of strong finishes inside. 2025 guard Evan McIntire Evan McIntire 6'1" | SG Greenwood Christian | 2025 IN also knocked down a big triple as the Cougars were able to cut the lead to 19-16. However, Bacon and 2023 guard Tony Flatt were able to get a couple of tough buckets to close out the half strong and give the Warriors a 26-18 lead at the break.
In the third quarter, the cold shooting continued for Greenwood Christian, and Covenant Christian was able to continue to stretch out their lead. Flatt and 2023 guard Wyatt Wash Wyatt Wash 6'5" Covenant Christian | 2023 IN each knocked down a triple to help extend the lead to 36-24 in a quiet third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, both teams started to heat up shooting the ball. Covenant Christian opened with the first 7 points to make it a 19-point lead after a pair of buckets by Flatt, and they got the lead to as many as 23 at 51-28. However, once the lead hit 23, Shewmaker and Booher began to heat up. The duo would combine for 15 of the 19 fourth quarter points for the Cougars, but in the end, their 4-16 night from the outside was just too much to overcome.
Flatt led Covenant Christian with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists in the win. Wash also added 11 points on 3 triples as he was knocking down shots all game. Shewmaker would lead both teams with 16 points in the loss. Booher would add 11 points in a rare poor shooting night at 3-12. McIntire also added 8 points and knocked down 2 of the Cougars 4 triples in the game.
Covenant Christian is proving to be a team to watch in 1A as they sit at 5-1 with their lone loss coming to 4A Mt. Vernon (Fortville). The Warriors will play Indianapolis Chatard in their final game before they play in the Morristown Holiday Tournament. Greenwood Christian is now 2-3 with all three losses coming to Sectional 43 opponents in University, Park Tudor, and Covenant Christian. They got a big win over Sectional rival Indianapolis Lutheran and will be a team to watch come March. The Cougars will take on Shenandoah before they play in the Monrovia Holiday Tournament.
