PH NorCal was there on Thursday Dec 8. Here are the Day 1 Standouts for the first round.
Cade Peterson 6’5 2023 forward from Folsom. He did well working in and around the basket finishing whenever he got close enough to the rim either running in transition, or slashing he converted his attempts in this one sided affair. He worked the baseline using reverses. He’s a solid body who’ll work the boards, make good passes, set solid screens and move without the ball. 9pts.
Myles Gilder 5’7 2023 PG of San Leandro. He was one of the bright spots on this team. He’s an energetic guard with good speed, strength, and handles to put pressure on the defense. He pushes fast in transition, attacks the paint in half-court. He plays hard hounding the ball on defense. He has good leverage with the ball, it’s hard to stay in front of him. He’s a ball hounder on defense.
Jalen Glenn Jalen Glenn 6'5" | SF Inderkum | 2023 State 6’4 2023 Guard from Inderkum. He was locked in on day 1. He’s one of NorCal’s top unsigned prospects. The lengthy guard had good movements on both ends of the court. With this all out style of play he excels in the open court. He has good lateral movement, good on the traps up top. He had blocks, and steals. He’s starting to show his offense in this early season, knocking down open 3’s, attacking from different angles. 21pts with multiple rebounds.
Jake Vasquez Jake Vasquez 6'3" | PG Redwood | 2023 6’4 2024 PG of Redwood. He’s a rising prospect in this class. He showed us he can contribute to a game in multiple ways. He’s a big guard who can run an offense. He brought the ball up court under pressure against a trapping team. He’ll have to tighten up his handles but he sees the court and makes good decisions, his passing was good. He has a good jump shot off the dribble, good size to score in the paint. At 6’4 he has the size to be a good rebounding guard. He had 22pts.
Darnell Hunter Jr 6’0 2024 Guard from Grant. He’s a speedy guard with good intentions on the court. He’s a contributor on both ends. He has work to do, but he can go get a basket using his handles and speed. He has a jump shot, and the range, but has to hit it more often. He’s a good defender with quick hands and can stay on ball. He hit the mid-range and a couple of 3’s for 16pts
Jaden Woodard Jaden Woodard 6'2" | SF Sheldon | 2024 State 6’3 2024 G/F from Sheldon. He plays fast, and hard when he makes his way into the paint off the dribble. He’s a physical player who plays through contact. At 6’3 he’ll bump and bang for rebounds. His handles are improving, after rebounding he’ll pushed the break, making good passing decisions. He’ll finish strong in transition. He can hit the paint jumper. 13pts
Cruz Burrise Cruz Burrise 6'7" | SF Edison Stockton | 2023 State 6’5 2023 Forward from Edison Stockton. It was a good first day for the unsigned Senior. His activity in and around the basket was noticeable, most of his points came on powering up after receiving a pass, dashing to the hoop, reverses and put backs. He played enforcer in the paint challenging shots, he had 2 blocks to go with 15pts, 13rebs.
Napoleon Reeves 6’4 2023 G/F from Lathrop. He’s a strong G/F with good handles, he boxes out well to get rebounds, looks up to make the long pass. He can score inside the lefty had a couple of strong drives, playing through contact to finish at the rim. He hit a much needed 3 when they needed one. He has the body, footspeed, and strength to guard in the paint and on the perimeter. He had 19pts with multiple rebounds.
