Consistently Potent Power Forwards
In this article:
Takhyian Whitset Takhyian Whitset 6'5" | PF Antioch (football) | 2025 State TN (Antioch) is enjoying a breakout year. Perhaps destined for a fruitful college football career, Whitset ranks above the best rebounders in middle Tennessee. He scored 14p, 11p, 16p in his three prior games. Wednesday he put in eight points. The 6-foot-5, 260-pount 15-year old boasts an 82-inch wingspan! A giant of a young man, Whitset is stunningly athletic considering he is nimbly moving around the court with approximately 80 more pounds than every opposing player.
Trey Guthrie (Houston County), a springy combo forward reported a size 18 shoe during our fall combine at Alcoa High School! A size 18! Guthrie is destined to be even taller than the already 6-foot-6ish he stands now. Encouragingly, Guthrie is very active around the rim. He can handle admirably. My favorite aspect of his game is his eagerness to meet new players, new teammates, and learn from them. He is a sponge of basketball information and nobody camped more in summer 2022. Guthrie is worldly in the basketball sense at such a young age. His future will be thrilling to watch develop. In a Wednesday game he scored 13 points with five rebounds and a block. Guthrie can go.
Elijah Lussier Elijah Lussier 6'9" | PF Collierville, TN | 2024 State TN (Collierville) is a dangerous player for tip-ins with his long arms extending above the fray. This season he routinely scores in the low double-digits.
Freshman Luke Sigmund (Maryville) scored 15.7 ppg in Andre’s reputable fall league in the Knoxville area. He will probably not see varsity time this year, but his JV contributions indicate the district is going to have a big, 6-foot-9 problem on their hands next year.
Carlos Orr Carlos Orr 6'3" | SG Gatlinburg-Pittman (football) | 2024 State TN (Gatlinburg-Pittman) is a fantastically energetic player who has been contributing at a high level since his freshman season. Teammate Ty Glasper Ty Glasper 6'1" | PG Gatlinburg-Pittman | 2025 State TN is a revolutionary figure for GP, the kind that sets school scoring records and vaults a modest program to their deepest ever playoff run. He will be an exceptional college basketball player, but this is about Orr. What does Orr do well? Rebound, rebound, rebound. Though he projects as a college wing, Carlos plays a lot of forward for GP and defends the rim exceptionally well. During BCAT 100 in June he showed that he will successfully defend the perimeter when asked. Great lower-body balance and lateral mobility at 6-foot-5. Entering 2023, Orr is averageing 14.1 ppg and 7.8 rpg.
Jason Burch Jason Burch 6'5" | C Green Hill | 2023 State TN (Green Hill) dominates around the rim. Nobody in middle Tennessee plays more effectively with his back to the basket. A dervish with strength and tenacity.
Kennedy Okpara Kennedy Okpara 6'7" | SF Silverdale Baptist | 2025 State TN (Silverdale), for the entire season, racks up rebounds and defends the rim. Nice second-jump bounce.
Grant’s dynamism during the @PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine was clear from the jump. He played above the rim during both the five-on-five portion and the All-Star Game.
The Lane Agility times (11.76, 11.62) indicates Grant’s decent wing quicks. He is quicker than most high school bigs, even the best of them, which is why he believably projects as a college wing.
The skills of Campbell include: running, jumping, shooting, versatile defending. His handle could improve in the open floor, but within the halfcourt parameters Campbell made perfect usage of his dribble and strides. Those long strides escorted him to the rim, even around the pesky guards. – June 2022 eval
