Continue ReadingBrookwood held on for a 49-46 victory, only scoring four points in the fourth quarter. Before the offense came to a screeching halt, Evan M Dunston Evan M Dunston 6’3″ | CG Brookwood | 2023 State GA was as smooth as silk, scoring from the perimeter as a graceful shot-maker. Dunston was devastating with his jump shot, nailing five three-pointers and hitting a pair of mid-range jumpers. Evan hit turnarounds, stepbacks and even a pair of And-1 jumpers, one being from behind the arc. He finished with 22 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. It was my first-time watching Dunston play, but if he shoots anywhere near as well as he did on Friday on a consistent basis, Evan’s stock is on the verge of exploding.
While Dunston did a lot of his scoring off the dribble, Reid was more of a catch-and-shoot scorer, netting four three-pointers on his way to 18 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Christian got downhill in spurts, converting on a reverse layup. On defense Reid drew a charge and harassed River Ridge’s smaller guards.
Jay McCord
Jay McCord
At 5-foot-10 Jay McCord is fearless. He attacks the rim for the full 32 minutes of the game. He’s a crafty finisher that draws contact when getting to the hoop. He scored 16 points, all six of his field goals coming on drives. McCord shot 4-10 from the foul line. Jay added 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
Now healthy, the Gardner-Webb tight end looked great for the Knights as he contributed 14 points and 5 rebounds. The strong-bodied forward proved to be a mismatch. While undersized to be a traditional power forward, Head made up for his lack of height with his overwhelming strength and explosive athleticism. Head scored with patient footwork in the pivot and stepped outside to hit a pair of threes.
