Austin Abrams commits to Stonehill
Mount St. Joseph guard Austin Abrams Austin Abrams 6'3" | SG Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State MD has announced his commitment to Stonehill, he tells Prep Hoops. The 6’3 sharpshooting guard comes in at No. 11 in our 2023 player rankings and for good reason. After helping Mount St. Joseph claim both the MIAA and BCL crowns last winter, he played a key role in Team Thrill’s 17U squad capture the UAA championship in July.
“They’ve been watching me play since I was with Mid-Atlantic Select in the spring and early summer, but more recently they flew down to watch me practice and they offered after that,” Abrams told Prep Hoops.
“The coaches showed a ton of love off the rip and them taking the trip down here just to watch me practice meant a lot to me. I took my official visit there earlier this week and was able to spend time with head coach Chris Kraus. We spent abut an hour just talking man-to-man and I gained a ton of respect for him in that time.”
Abrams has cemented himself as one of the best shooters in the MD/DC area regardless of class.
“The coaches were just telling me how much they like the way I shoot the ball, but also my IQ. They believe what I have to offer fits what they need as they continue to build their program at the Division I level.”
Once the staff zeroed in on Abrams, he was a priority for them. Abrams didn’t wait long to make his verbal commitment after being offered less than two weeks ago. Considering his elite ability to shoot the ball, win games at a high level and his size, it was always a surprise that more programs didn’t court his services, but Stonehill gets a steal who has a chance to contribute right away.
What can Stonehill fans expect Abram to bring?
“I’m going to bring energy, shot making, defense and just the willingness to do whatever my coaches need me to do.”
