1. King Peterson – Crenshaw 2024
Peterson has always impressed me as being able to play both guard positions despite his size. He’s capable of being the primary ball-handler and facilitating the offense, or he can play more off-ball and look to score. Good three-point shooter off the catch. He pushes the ball well in transition and can finish at the basket. Good on-ball defender; he’s quick and slides his feet well to cut off the opposing ball-handler’s motion. Quick hands to force turnovers.
2. Davyeon Marino – El Segundo 2023
Marino stood out as a solid big man. He has good size and strength and is active around the rim. Plays well in the pick and roll setting good screens and then rolling to rim. Good hands always ready to catch passes. He can finish strong at the basket. Very active on the glass, a good offensive rebounder to keep possessions alive and get put-back opportunities.
3. Elliott Collin Fenderson – Pacifica Christian(Santa Monica) 2024
Fenderson is capable of playing both guard positions. He’s more of a shooting guard, but can handle the ball as the team’s primary ball-handler and run the offense. A good long-range shooter, he can consistently knock down three-point shots off the catch. He has a solid slashing game too, he can attack consistently off the dribble, has good handles, and can get to the basket. Comfortable with being a shot creator and getting his shot off against the defense.
4. Bryan Zavala – Morningside
Zavala stood out for his ability to be everywhere on the court. He was a tenacious defender who was active on-ball and slides his feet well to force the ball-handler to pick up their dribble. He keeps the ball moving in the halfcourt, a pass-first guard. He hustles after loose balls and isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint fighting for rebounds against bigger players.
