Benjamin Makalela
Benjamin Makalela
Benjamin Makelela is a strong rebounder for Capistrano Valley Christian who uses his wide frame very effectively. The biggest thing that Makelela needs to work on is his touch around the basket. Makelela is often the biggest and most athletic kid on the court and should serve as the focal point for his teams offense but his lack of offensive awareness and lack of finishing ability make that difficult. During tonight’s game he only took shots over his left shoulder and needs to develop counter moves to be able to get by defenders consistently.
Ariik Mawien Ariik Mawien 6’3″ | SF Capistrano Valley Christian | 2023 State CA-S is an extremely athletic guard who helps out your team by skying for rebounds on both ends and using his quickness with the ball to start 1-man fast breaks. Mawien is a very effective slasher on the offensive end and someone who can be effective without the ball in his hands all the time as well. Ariik needs to work on his finishing in close so that he can convert a higher percentage of the opportunities his athleticism affords him every game.
Cetin Seles
Cetin Seles
Cetin Seles does a great job of controlling the tempo on offense for his team and is a steady presence at Point Guard. Seles has a very quick crossover and first step and used them both repeatedly Tuesday afternoon to get into the teeth of the defense and set up teammates.
Colin Huang
Colin Huang
Colin Huang is an aggressive and strong shooting guard for Portola High School who doesn’t allow defenders to stay in front of him and even when they do he is often able to just blow right them. He did this for three separate and-1 opportunities alone on Tuesday night as well as stepping behind the 3-point for a couple of long range jumpers. Huang’s build, athleticism, and ability to finish with both hands at a high speed making him a fun player to watch.
Jayden Schnabl
Jayden Schnabl
Jayden Schnabl displayed his ability to score at all three levels on Tuesday night. The lefty wing for San Clemente managed to hurt Portola from everywhere on the floor as he hit multiple threes, got to the line several times, and was a very effective cutter without the ball.
