They have been doing this since 2009, Athletes are first nominated by their head coach and ranked by all head coaches in that respective classification. There is a First Team All-State and a Second Team All-State consisting of eight players each. There are sixteen total players selected from both teams consisting of Guards, Forwards and Centers. This article will give our predictions for the All-State Teams, The 5A Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
5A Player of the Year: Jalin Holland Jalin Holland 6'5" | SG Los Lunas | 2025 State #85 Nation NM “Los Lunas”
Coach of the Year: Greg Brown “Volcano Vista”
Defensive Player of the Year: Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM “Volcano Vista’
Freshman of the Year: Remy Albrecht Remy Albrecht 5'11" | PG Cleveland | 2026 State NM “Cleveland”
First Team All-State:
Guard: Chris Parra “Atrisco Heritage”- The senior PG is coming off being selected to Second Team All-State last season and Third Team All-Metro.
Guard: Daniel Steverson Daniel Steverson 6'2" | SG Cleveland | 2025 #315 Nation NM “Cleveland”- The Star Shooting Guard had a breakout season as a sophomore last year and looked better than ever in the off-season.
Forward: Jalin Holland Jalin Holland 6'5" | SG Los Lunas | 2025 State #85 Nation NM “Los Lunas”- The sophomore Star is the only returning player from last season who was selected to First Team All-State and is arguably the best player in NM.
Forward: Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM “Volcano Vista”- The hero in the 5A State Championship last year is set to have a breakout season as he looks like the state’s top Power Forward.
Center: Sean Alter Sean Alter 6'9" | PF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM “Volcano Vista”- The Volcano Vista big man comes into the 2022-23 campaign as the state’s top Center.
Guard: Caileb Parham Caileb Parham 6'2" | SG Eldorado | 2023 State NM “Eldorado”- The athletic and dynamic scoring guard leads the way on a title contender that many around the community are overlooking.
Forward: Damian Perez Damian Perez 6'5" | SF Carlsbad | 2023 State NM “Carlsbad”- Is a versatile wing player that has the ability to play both sides of the basketball. In the discussion as a Top 10 player in New Mexico.
Center: Mike Knaub “Eldorado”- The missing piece for the Eagles last year that will make them a serious team to be reckoned with come playoff time.
Second Team All-State:
Guard: Latavious Morris Latavious Morris 5'8" | PG Atrisco Heritage | 2025 State NM “Atrisco Heritage”- The Star Guard looks to carry his success from his freshman year into his sophomore year in hopes of leading AHA back to a State Title.
Guard: Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM “Volcano Vista”- Making his first year as the starting Point Guard for the defending 5A State Champions, expect an all-around season for Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM .
Forward: Andrew Hill “Sandia”- The versatile Guard is set to lead the Sandia Matadors as they make a run for the 5A State Championship.
Forward: Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'2" | SF West Mesa | 2024 State NM “West Mesa”- One of the best acquisitions over the off-season, he will show is value to the Mustangs this season.
Center: Caleb Carr Caleb Carr 6'10" | C Las Cruces | 2023 State NM “Las Cruces”- The Las Cruces big man makes his first season as the starting Center and will have a major impact for the Bulldawgs.
Guard: Brandon Lagunas “West Mesa”- This will be the second straight season Brandon Lagunas is the best player on the Mustangs. Word is finally getting around he is one of the best Shooting Guards in New Mexico.
Forward: Cedarius Yates Cedarius Yates 6'3" | SF La Cueva | 2023 State NM “La Cueva”- With so many pieces removed from the La Cueva Bears roster, expect Cedarius Yates Cedarius Yates 6'3" | SF La Cueva | 2023 State NM to put the team on his back throughout the season.
Forward: Jonah Lopez Jonah Lopez 6'2" | SG Rio Grande | 2023 State NM “Rio Grande”- One of the states most talented and gifted players. Jonah Lopez Jonah Lopez 6'2" | SG Rio Grande | 2023 State NM should have another great year for the Ravens this season.
