The race appears to be wide open this year and it should be an interesting topic of conversation throughout the season. I’m going to give you my current top 10 in this season’s race. Please comment and give us your top 10 as well!

Benard is a proven star and a player that plays so well on such a consistent basis, that he deserves a look for Mr. Basketball this season. He has shown the ability to fill it up from behind the arc as well as break down very high level defenders off the bounce. Benard has the strength needed to brush off contact.

Wilson has a chance to follow in the footsteps of former UD Jesuit star Cassius Winston and become the school’s second Mr. Basketball award winner. He’s lightning fast up the court using both the dribble and the pass effectively to advance the ball. This puts a lot of pressure on the defense and exploits weaknesses.

Nausadis could probably be considered an all time great from the Traverse City area, and he deserves that distinction. He moves freely and easily with or without the ball, utilizing his horizontal quickness and ability to change direction. Nausadis could put up some video game like numbers this season and propel himself to the Mr. Basketball award.

When your the senior star of a state title contender and a terrific overall basketball player, it greatly increases your odds of being considered for the Mr. Basketball award. Brown is a versatile guard that can play on or off the ball with effectiveness and efficiency. If he leads his team to a special season, you could see him at the table with the finalists.

There aren’t many, if any, players with as much skill and upside as Blackwell. On a loaded roster, he may share the ball a little more but that’s part of what makes him great. Blackwell is a versatile guard that can create, get and hit a ton of shots, but can also distribute the ball at a high level.

Williams has had a college ready frame for a long time now and fits the profile of an impact player at the next level. He has the ability to go off and could be on the verge of a huge senior season. Williams has a pretty jumper, can fill the wing in transition, and can score with physicality. His overall game and game impact are both worthy of Michigan’s Mr. Basketball award.

A year ago, who would have thought that Ward would be this high, or even on, this list. Hutch himself and Coach John Strong is probably about it. Man were they right. We all saw “The Hutch Ward Hutch Ward 6’8″ | PF Kalamazoo Central | 2023 State MI Explosion”. It’s been a thing of beauty. If he keeps playing the explosive shooting and nasty finishing style of game that he’s been playing, he should have a seat at the table of finalists.

It appears that we owe you a welcome back to Michigan Mr. Bailey! We’re glad your back my friend. Bailey is an elite guard talent that can put the ball on the floor, get in the lane and force the defenses hand. He’s a playmaker through and through and has the frame needed to play aggressively and physically, shrugging defenders off.

I’m a Malik Olafioye Malik Olafioye 6’2″ | PG Ecorse | 2023 MI believer and I will never back off my belief in this young man. He led his Ecorse squad on a deep playoff run that had them contending for a state championship last season. That’s the kind of player this young man is and can be. Olafioye has that ‘it’ factor and could lead his team on another special run this year. Watch out for some big numbers and big wins from him in the coming months.

Taylor is the leader of a talented team that has state title aspirations. He both scores and distributes at an elite level. Taylor holds the ability to not just find the open man, but actually pass them open. Taylor is a winner through and through and he knows how to get the most from his teammates, both of which can hold a ton of weight when determining who is named Mr. Basketball.
