Continue ReadingWe have almost made it, folks. The Indiana High School Basketball Season is officially just one week away as I write this one Monday, November 14th. Our team here at Prep Hoops Indiana has been getting you ready for the upcoming season for months now. Countless preview articles have highlighted all you need to know around the state while trips to 23 different high school open gyms gave you a more in-depth look at some of the top programs. Now, it is time to start pushing out some preseason all-state selections and Mr. Basketball candidates. This is always a contentious topic, but we do or best to cover our bases from every corner of the state. Here is the second of our Prep Hoops Indiana Mr. Basketball candidates. Go check out our first released candidate, Logan Imes Logan Imes 6'4" | PG Zionsville | 2023 State #202 Nation IN .
Myles J. Colvin Myles J. Colvin 6'5" | SG Heritage Christian | 2023 State #51 Nation IN has really burst onto the scene nationally after an outstanding summer. The 6’5″ guard is a Top 100 recruit, ranked #92 in the country by 247Sports, and was chosen to represent the United States of American on the U18 3×3 National Team. Colvin is ranked as the #3 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Hoops Indiana. After averaging 18.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while shooting over 40% from beyond the arc, the future Purdue Boilermaker was chosen to play on the Indiana Junior All-Star “Core” team. Heritage Christian is coming off of a 12-12 season and will now move up to compete in Class 3A. The Eagles will be competing in the very competitive Sectional 27 alongside teams like Guerin Catholic, Brebeuf Jesuit, and Bishop Chatard. The step up in competition won’t be easy, but having one of the best players in the state will certainly ease the transition.
Colvin brings elite athleticism and perimeter shooting ability to the table. At 6’5″ he has the requisite size to play at a high level on the perimeter while also being explosive enough play well above the rim. His range extends well beyond the three-point arc which helps to extend the defense and create driving lanes for himself and his teammates. Playing alongside point guard Dylan Doss Dylan Doss 5'10" | PG Heritage Christian | 2023 State IN will give Heritage Christian a chance every time they step on the floor this season.
Path to Winning Mr. Basketball: The Mr. Basketball race will be very competitive this season. There are highly ranked national prospects, players who will put up massive individual numbers, and excellent players on really good teams. Myles J. Colvin Myles J. Colvin 6'5" | SG Heritage Christian | 2023 State #51 Nation IN could potentially fit into all three of those categories. However, he will likely need to lead Heritage Christian out of Sectional 27 to be a legitimate candidate which could be an uphill battle. In terms of pure talent, and likely when looking at the season-end numbers, Colvin will have the resume of a potential Mr. Basketball. The team success will have to follow now during his senior campaign.
