Players To Watch
Treyton Knox Treyton Knox 6'5" | PF Highmore-Harrold | 2023 State SD (2023) 6’5″
He averaged 10 ppg, 6 rpg, 1 apg, and 1 bpg last year. Trey is a very gifted scorer when he is aggressive. His length makes him a good defender and rebounder. Knox can score from all three levels.
Mason Knox (2023) 6’1″
He averaged 5 ppg and 5 rpg last season. Mason is the Pirates Swiss army knife. He can guard every position on the court and he does a very good job of it. On offense, Knox can play anywhere that he is needed becuase of his versatilty. Mason is also a tough rebounder and defender.
Bryce Bourk (2023) 6’1″
He averaged 2 ppg and 1 rpg in his junior season. Bryce will be a big part of the Pirate offense this year. He has put in a lot of work this offseason and Bourk looks like he will be a huge contributor for the Pirates.
Dawson Hale (2023) 5’10”
He had a very good JV season for the Pirates this past year. Expect Hale to be a good contributor for the Pirates this season.
Trake Cowan Trake Cowan 6'5" | PF Highmore-Harrold | 2024 State SD (2024) 6’5″
He averaged 8ppg and 9 rpg last year. Trake will be our force in the middle for Highmore-Harrold. He came on strong last year as a sophomore. Cowan is very strong and a good/productive rebounder.
Carson Stephenson Carson Stephenson 6'0" | PG Highmore-Harrold | 2024 State SD (2024) 6′
He averaged 6 ppg, 3 rpg, and 3 apg last season as a soph. Carson is a very good point guard that knows how to lead a team. He is a good shooter and can get to the basket and finish. Stephenson is very good at seeing the whole court and making the correct pass. He does a good job at setting his teammates up for open shots.
Team Comments from coach Scott Pekarek
“We had a very good off-season. The boys put in a lot of work and improved greatly. We were 12-9 last year and are losing quite a bit of experience. We had some boys get their feet wet with a little playing time last year and hopefully, that will help them adjust to more time right away this year. This group of Seniors and Juniors has had very good success in the past playing and hopefully, that will continue this year. We are going to try to get up and down as fast as possible this year. We have a lot of athleticism and we need to take advantage of it. We need to speed teams up and make them adjust to our style of play. Our biggest rival is Sully Buttes. They are a regional team. We haven’t had a lot of success against them in the past but hopefully, that will change this year. The top teams in our region will be Lower Brule- they return some very good players from a State Tournament team last year. Wolsey-Wessington- they return good talent and have a good program going there.“
Best of Luck to the Pirates this season!
