Look out for this team, Gregory will have a good chance to make a nice run in the playoffs. They are young but have Daniel Mitchell who is one of the best players in South Dakota and a tough PG with Cruz Klundt Cruz Klundt 6'0" | PG Gregory | 2025 State SD . See below for more information on the Gorillas.
2021-2022 Season
Last year Gregory finished with a 14-8 record. They lost in the Region Semifinals in OT to Burke. The Gorillas were young last year with only 2 healthy seniors. However, they might be even younger this year as they are not expecting any seniors to be on the roster.
Off-Season
Many of the Gorillas spent countless hours in the gym during the offseason/summer. They worked hard and improved their overall games. I am expecting the time they spent in the gym this summer will show this winter!
Top Players
Daniel Mitchell (2024) |6’7 F| – 2nd Team All-State last season with 19.8 ppg and 9.4 rpg. Mitchell plays above the rim and has the ability to score in multiple ways from multiple spots on the floor. He can protect the rim and control the boards as well. If things go as planned, Daniell will be an All-State player for the 3rd straight season. I am sure that he would love to add a State Tournament appearance to his resume!
Cruz Klundt Cruz Klundt 6'0" | PG Gregory | 2025 State SD (2025) |5’11 PG| – All-Conference last year with 11.4 ppg and 4.6 apg as a frosh! Klundt has spent the most time in the gym out of anyone from Gregory this past off-season. At the PG spot, Cruz controls the pace of the game and breaks down the defense to get his teammates open looks. Klundt craves delivering a great assist just as much as knocking down a three-pointer. That is rare these days!
Sophomores Rane Kenzy Rane Kenzy 6'2" | SF Gregory | 2025 State SD (5.8PPG and 3.5 RPG) and Noah Bearshield (2.2 PPG) have the potential to have big years for the Gorillas as well!
PHD asked coach Determan about his team’s style of play, rivals, and Region 6
“We want to play quick but under control. Experienced guys should allow us to do that. Our biggest rival is Burke. Gregory and Burke are only 8 miles apart so it is just a natural rivalry. I think we will be the favorite to win our region. Corsica/Stickney will be right there as well.”
Good Luck to the Gregory Gorillas!!
