Andrew Nagy
Andrew Nagy
Andrew Nagy is an excellent rim runner, stretches the floor on offense, and has great hands which enables him to be an effective focal point for his team in the high or low post. Nagy is also able to pass well out of the aforementioned high post area finding teammates both on backdoor cuts, and fellow bigs on high-low entries. If Nagy continues to become more athletic and refines his jump shot he will be constant threat on the offensive end. Andrew paced Orange Lutheran in their victory Tuesday night with 18 points. Bonus: extending his range to the 3-point line
David Manea David Manea 6’6″ | SF Orange Lutheran | 2023 CA-S is able to score well at multiple levels, a good passer both in transition and the half-court, and possesses the size to defend wings and post players. Manea’s biggest plus attribute is his slashing game as he can utilize his strength and width to get and stay ahead of defenders and certainly isn’t afraid to seek out contact and get to the free throw line. David had 7 points in Orange Lutheran’s victory Tuesday night.
Highlights
JJ Hooper
JJ Hooper
JJ Hooper has a never-ending motor and at 6″6 that has turned him into a tremendous offensive rebounder, and his soft touch from the foul-line and in allow him to create and clean up a lot of second chances on offense. Hooper also goes to a half turnaround jump shot over his left shoulder that he is quite good at but likely needs to develop a counter. He is able to defend wings well, but struggles when asked to defend heavier post players due to his thinner frame. Hooper doesn’t just rely on his motor to rebound and showed that off by elevating above the rim with an authoritative one-handed slam in Western Christian’s game today against Sunny Hills. He led the Fighting Lancers with 18 points Tuesday night.
Ze Brien Watkins
Ze Brien Watkins
Ze Brien Watkins is an intriguing Sophomore starting for the Sunny Hills Lancers on the wing this year. While he’s still a very raw ball handler, he’s naturally talented enough and good enough of an athlete to beat his defender and get to the basket with just one or two dribbles. Watkins inconsistently makes a step back jump shot but if he is able to improve that move it would allow him to create even more space for himself. He already possesses good body control on drives to the paint and as he gets older and puts on weight that ability should only improve. Watkins had 11 points in a victory for Sunny Hills over Western Christian on Tuesday night.
Nate Garcia Nate Garcia 6’10” | C Damien | 2025 State #385 Nation CA-S is a 6″10 Sophomore starting at Center for Damien this season. Garcia possesses good enough touch around the basket that he is able to dominate undersized opponents in-close to the basket, but his away from the basket game is such that he can be ignored beyond the free throw line (when he catches the ball it’s specifically evident because he often doesn’t turn to face the basket). Adding a short jumper or even a floater/push shot would be an excellent addition to his arsenal. Nate is an adept shot blocker on the defensive end already and his timing should only continue to improve as he set to play heavy minutes for the Spartans this season. With 26 points Monday night followed up by 22 points on Tuesday night, Garcia has definitely hit the ground running.
