The Colonial Conference had a strong season last year as four teams won at least 20 games with one team taking home a sectional title. The conference has a couple of players that has the potential to break out this season. Here are the Colonial Conference breakout players to watch in 2022-23.
Ted Bond Ted Bond 6'5" | SF Haddonfield | 2023 State NJ , 6’6 PF Haddonfield 2023
Haddonfield has been one of the top programs in South Jersey over the past couple of seasons and Bond has the chance to step up into a big role this season. The 6’6 forward is a good stretch forward as he has a nice release on his jumper and sets his feet before he shoots. Bond moves well without the ball in his hands and sets good screens in the half court. He is a solid passer and fights hard on the glass at both ends. Bond should get more touches on the offensive end this season, which will help his stock in a big way.
Tyler Levins Tyler Levins 6'3" | SG Haddon Township | 2023 State NJ , 6’3 SG Haddon Township 2023
Levins had a big junior campaign for the Hawks and should have an even bigger senior season for them. The 6’3 guard attacks the basket with a purpose as he knows how to finish around the basket and does not mind drawing contact in the paint. Levins plays with poise with the ball in his hands and rises up with confidence on his jumper. He is a strong rebounder for a guard and is an underrated defender. Levins can score the ball in bunches as he should eclipse the 1,000-point mark in 2022-23 for Haddon Township.
Brendan Shannon Brendan Shannon 6'7" | PF Haddon Heights | 2023 State NJ , 6’7 PF Haddon Heights 2023
Shannon has the opportunity for a breakout season as he will be one of the top interior prospects in the Colonial Conference this season. The 6’7 forward knows how to get position down low and has a nice touch around the basket. Shannon has an underrated face-up game as he can put the ball on the floor and knock down open jumpers on the perimeter. He rips down rebounds on both ends of the floor and uses his length to influence shots on the defensive end. Shannon is a hard-working forward prospect who should rack up double-doubles for Haddon Heights throughout the season.
Michael Light Michael Light 5'11" | PG Gloucester | 2024 State NJ , 5’11 PG Gloucester 2024
Liam Gorman Liam Gorman 5'11" | PG Gloucester | 2023 State NJ returns as the Lions’ top scorer, but Light has the potential to have a breakout campaign for them. The 5’11 guard has a good handle, which he uses to get by his defender and finish around the basket. Light knows how to find his open teammates in the half court and can make opponents pay for giving him space behind the arc. He is capable of getting deflections on the defensive end and can play off the ball as well. Light will have the ball in his hands more this season, which should help his stock in a big way.
Caleb Mundell, G Sterling 2023
Mundell is the top returning scorer for the Silver Knights and should have a big 2022-23 season for them. He moves well without the ball in his hands, freeing himself up for open jumpers and layups. Mundell rarely forces shots in the half court and uses his handle to get into the lane. He is a solid rebounder and uses quick hands to get deflections on defense. Mundell will be tasked with shouldering a bigger scoring load this season as Sterling looks to win over 20 games again this season.
