Carter Webb Carter Webb 6'3" | PG Siegel | 2025 State TN (Siegel) is a star. Now. Few sophomores in Tennessee look as quick and clever with the basketball. In his season debut, Webb escaped a triple-team by throwing the basketball behind his back into a dribble and crossing immediately afterwards. The ensuing kick to the corner was precise, worthy of an assist, but his teammate missed the shot long.
“Avery started for me last year,” said MLK Head Coach Caden Anderson. “He made way too many mistakes last year. This year he is locked in mentally. High I.Q. Strong kid. Big kid. Seems to have grown up since our loss in March.”
Coach Anderson acknowledges the MLK squad will need a big season from Townsend for the team to be successful. Expect it.
Frederick Motley owns the best smile in Memphis. Don’t be lulled into a complacent mood though, because Motley is a killer. Crafty. Clever. Sneaky quick.
Tyreque McCarver Tyreque McCarver 6'1" | PG Smyrna | 2025 State TN (Smyrna) might be sitting out most of the season, after transferring in to Smyrna High. His burst of speed sets him apart from most peers. McCarver’s older brother Ashton is a freshman hooper for Dyersburg State Community College. Ashton was Next Level Skills All-Star back in March 2022.
Riley Gladwin Riley Gladwin 5'11" | PG Knoxville Catholic | 2025 State TN (Knox Catholic) must sit this entire season, which is a shame, after transferring from Hardin Valley Academy. Gladwin landed in the PrepHoopsTN Fall Combine All-Star Game with a strong mid-October day in Alcoa. Elite passer. Adept dribbler. Very thin. Needs to bulk up. Riley showed how incredible his court awareness was with and without the basketball by spacing the floor well. He will be better as a point guard when he learns to lead through vocalization.
Highlights
Fantastic wiggle at 6-foot-3. Timothy Matthews Timothy Matthews 6'3" | SF Hamilton | 2025 State TN plays center for Bolton right now, which makes long-term projection tricky. Still, he handles like a dream and slashes like a future college basketball player. Good frame and strength for a sophomore.
