We get to see a good matchup between Maize South who are currently ranked #2 in the state rankings released 11/29/22 vs Andover Central who is ranked #8 in the state but brings back a ton of their scoring. As we watch the game, let’s take a look at who will look to be game changers for their teams, first up is Andover Central.
Kobe Smith Kobe Smith 6'1" | CG Andover Central | 2023 State KS – There’s nothing Kobe can’t do and how far the jaguars go will determine a lot upon his play. He can score it from anywhere on the court and is most effective when attacking the rim. He can finish at the rim against your shot blocker, has an outstanding midrange game, and can hit the catch and shoot 3 when he’s left open. With all his finesse in his game, he has the ability to score a quick 25 if you aren’t careful.
Brian Perry- Perry will be a matchup nightmare, on the scouting report but doesn’t shock the world by scoring 30 every night, he is another reason why the Jaguars will be very good this season. His strength and physical play are not your average high schooler and his game is smooth. He has a nice shooting stroke from the 3, and can put the ball on the floor as well. Brian demands multiple defenders, if you guard him one-on-one it will be a long night.
Chance Gulley- Chance brings that old-school style of playback with his slashing attributes. It’s extremely tough to gameplan for someone that can make plays without plays being called for him and that’s exactly what Chance does. It’s underrated but Chance does a great job of using his off-ball movements to help him get to his spots to score. From cutting through the lane or going back door, just hope help side is there so the pass doesn’t get to him, if it does he’s athletic enough to finish over you.
Omar Alsmadi- Omar clogs up the paint for the Jaguars and add to their tenacious defense. While the guards are doing their job of guarding on the ball and being a pest, Omar is under the rim waiting to send back shots and scare people away from the rim. To me he’s the secret weapon to them winning ball games if he can protect the rim consistently and continuously rebound the basketball for them.
Cole Newfarmer Cole Newfarmer 6'2" | PG Andover Central | 2024 KS – Cole, the floor stretcher, is just as good as anyone in this league, he can stretch the floor all game long and can give you nightmares in the paint with his euro steps finishes. A little bit of a slasher and a little bit of a scorer with the ball, cole will be a huge factor for Andover central against maize south. He doesn’t need much to get going and he does it on both ends of the floor. He did a great job of it in AAU and now he’s looking to continue his hot streak this school season.
