Jerrell is rapidly rising in the ranks after his performance over the preseason and the first few tournaments. He calmly knifes through the defense with his handle, getting seemingly anywhere he wants to on the floor. His calmness with the basketball is not just from the hours you can tell he has spent with a ball in his hands, but his overall maturity. His ability to lead his team on the court is incredibly impressive, calmly talking with the referees and taking control of all facets of the game on the court. I love how calm he is, even during a tight game. His demeanor is already at a collegiate level, along with his maturity and overall basketball IQ on the court which is already at an elite level. This kid will soon be on a plethora of college coaches radar.
Chase Ashby 2024 6’3 Atascocita High School
Chase has a very impressive frame, which allows him to be a real weapon on the fast break and on his way to the rim. He is going to be an intricate part of this incredibly deep Atascocita team for the way he scores the ball, but more importantly how valuable he is as a defender. He showed an ability to keep high level prospects in front of him as an on ball defender, but his awareness as a help side defender is on another level. He is great at getting his hands involved when his opponent is trying to turn the corner on his teammate, poking the ball free as they go up strong or go into a dribble move. His ferocity on the defensive side of the ball should garner attention at the next level, especially paired with the high level coaching he is receiving, paired with his special frame and the natural ability Ashby has to get to the rim and finish.
Ja’Various Thompson 2024 6’3 Aldine Nimitz High School
Ja’Various is a high level shooting guard who thrives on using his frame to get into the teeth of the defense and finish through contact. His ability to adjust his shot angle and hang in the air to calmly lay the ball up is at a very high level already. However where I have seen the most development in the last year is through his ability to create opportunities for his teammates. His passes are now crisply finding their targets with great accuracy and at just the right time. His willingness to rebound allows him to fire the right outlet passes or make the home run play finding a streaking teammate over the top of the defense. I have been very impressed with how well his calmness with a live dribble has improved as well as his willingness to do the little things such as rebound and make the right pass. Thompson needs to be on more coaches radars through his play, aggressive demeanor and ability to play positions 2-4 if necessary.
Christopher Adlam 2024 6’2 Houston Christian High School
Christopher has great size at the guard position and loves attacking the rim with his handle but really was impressed by his willingness to do all of the little things. He is a natural rebounder who has a great nose for the ball, he willingly boxes out and dives on loose balls and goes after second chance points. His awareness on the defensive end allows him to play the passing lanes and get a plethora of steals this way, and finishing with consistency on the fast break. He is great at playing off the ball, calmly waiting with his hands and feet ready for the ball to be swung to him allowing him to quickly get shots up. Adlam is not just a set shooter however, if you play him too closely he will put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. He is fearless attacking downhill and then uses his lanky frame to lay the ball up strong.
