Debrion is a lanky point guard who thrives at drawing the attention of the defense and kicking the ball out to his open shooters, or finish at a very high level at the rim. He showed an ability to get past his initial defender and force the second defender to step up and react, allowing him to punish them with dump off passes or going up strong to finish over the timid forward. He is flashy and crafty as he uses dribble moves to get downhill and create separation with his handle, and then exploding downhill and squeezing through double teams. I loved watching him create out of the pick and roll, firing crisp passes to find his teammates as they flash to the rim. He put the right amount of juice on his passes to get through multiple defenders. Other times he can fire a pass on the back side of the defense after they collapse on him and his big man running the pick and roll.
J’Mar Franklin 2024 6’0 St Thomas High School
J’Mar is the definition of a true point guard, calmly setting up his teammates with open looks and off of the attention that he draws. He has the ability to create offense any time he steps on the floor, and his teammates are really lucky to play along side him. He fires pinpoint passes to cutting teammate that hit them in stride, and always has his head up to make the right reads. His ability to find his teammates almost forces them to go top speed knowing a timely pass will come if they are open. He is a calm scorer off the bounce, and he loves getting to his spots within the mid-range. I loved his versatility and his willingness to take what the defense gives him as he calmly picks his spots and gets to where he wants to.
Qasim Boyd Qasim Boyd 6'0" | PG Dickinson | 2024 State TX 2024 6′ Dickinson High School
Qasim is really climbing in the rankings due to his aggressive play style and his ability to defend the ball and create offense for his teammates. He is great at moving his feet and staying in front of high level guards. He was not afraid to press them in the full court and was a smart trapping help defender on the sidelines and the wings. I was very impressed with his vision in the full court, creating opportunities with his full court passing ability, but also how he was able to push the pace and handle the ball. He has great body control when attacking downhill and getting to the rim. However what I love most about him as a prospect has to be the intensity and energy he brings to the floor. His demeanor and the intensity that he plays the game with is already ready for the next level. Dickinson is going to be MUST SEE TV as they get their football players back into the fold…
Divine Ugochukwu 2024 6’4 Fort Bend Clements High School
Divine is an ideal combo guard ready to thrive at the next level. He is very well deserving of his high ranking and will likely continue to climb after this year. He is going to really have to act as a point guard this year and control the game every time he steps on the floor. He relentlessly attacks the rim off the bounce, and can operate out of the pick and roll. He is an extremely polished scorer from all three levels of the floor, but where he really is a weapon is in the mid-range calmly rising up and scoring off the bounce or with his back to the basket. He is a willing hunter of his mid-range shot, and plays energetic and high level defense on the other end. He does all of the little things right on the court, such as spacing when running the fast break or hustling over to protect the backside of the defense after a skip pass. It was fun watching him run around and wreak havoc every time he was near the ball on the defensive end of the floor. What I love most about his game is his willingness to take over when his team is in trouble. They all know they can rely on him as a scorer in late game situations and his ability to get to his spots in the paint and the mid-range allows him to hunt easy looks for himself all night.
