Analysis: Boise State-commit Carmichael was a no-brainer for our all-state selections as the projected top player for a title-contending Summit team. Similarly, the statistical prominence of Law and Robertson made them easy choices, as they’ll likely be battling for both a league title and NWOC player of the year honors throughout the season. Otten is fairly firmly atop 5A’s short list of dominant big men, leading an experienced Redmond team against a new-look IMC. Townsend, alongside Carmichael, will contribute to this new-look, jumping down from 6A to help the Cougars compete for a state title.
On the second team, we project Golden, Jensen, and Nelson to lead the way for balanced postseason teams, while Gutridge and Wu are included as vital returning pieces for one of the championship favorites. These second-team selections were more difficult, as many of these projected postseason teams have multiple players capable of earning an all-state nod. That said, we settled on these five before the season has begun.
Our process for selecting player of the year was fairly simple, as the best player on the best team usually takes home the award. Preseason, that player appears to be Carmichael, who leads a Summit team that was the 6A runner-up a season ago.
