Continue Reading2022-23 will be the first year for the Twin States League as the conference is made up of teams from Ohio and one from West Virginia. One of the smaller leagues in Southeast Ohio, the inaugural season will feature some previous powerhouses looking to move forward in new territory.
- 1. Warren– One of the better Division II teams last year, the Warriors lose one of the top players in recent history (Brayden Sallee) from a 17 win team a year ago. While Sallee is gone, the Warriors have 2 young guys back in Trent Taylor (Jr) and Julian Stadelman (So). Taylor was 2nd Team All-District and will now have the reins to lead the team in scoring. Division II doesn’t have a clear cut favorite and I could see the Warriors contending and surprising people in the District round.
- 2. Fort Frye– The Cadets didn’t have the greatest season in 2022, losing quite a few games in the process of a 8 win season. Last year’s team didn’t have any explosive names and didn’t jump off the page. The return of Owen Brown (Sr) will serve as a positive note moving forward as the Cadets will need experience to challenge Warren, who defeated the Cadets twice a year ago. I wouldn’t expect a large jump, but Fort Frye has been a tough team previously.
- 3. Marietta– The Tigers took some bumps and bruises last year in route to a 6-16 finish. Struggling in plenty of games, Marietta also lost their top player in Tyler Kytta which will spell some problems when looking at who Marietta is going to look to in 2023. Another team in Division II, the Tigers probably are not going to be challenging Warren or Fort Frye unless they can tap into their underclassmen and build upward and onward.
- 4. Point Pleasant (WV)– is the 4th member of the league, but I will not be covering due to their location across the border.
