The event featured several matchups throughout the day between a few solid teams. I was able to attend the event for most of the day on Sunday Oct. 23 and here’s a look at some of the top standouts I saw.
1. Jaden Depina – Taft 2024
Depina is an explosive guard who can get buckets quickly. He’s very quick off the dribble with good handles and good crossovers. He can get into the paint and finish consistently at the basket. Pushes the ball well in transition. A consistent shooter from three-point range. Good on ball defensively too. He has quick hands, gets in the passing lanes and forces turnovers to start the break. Can pull-up and shoot off the dribble as well.
2.

– St Pius X St Matthias 2024
Riley is a very good guard with a combination of skill. His size is a plus and allows him to see the floor very well over the defense. He is a very solid ball-handler who gets out in transition. He can finish at the rim consistently, Able to play in the post against smaller defenders and has a little fadeaway jumper from the midpost. Uses his length to extend and finish. Able to shoot from three-point range off the catch. Defensively, he plays the passing lanes and knocks balls free.
3.
Maurice Wright

– St Paul 2024
Wright didn’t shoot the ball particularly well earlier on in the game I saw, but it was clear that he is comfortable in creating his own shot and is regularly effective in doing so. He has an explosive burst to the rim and consistently beats his defender off the dribble. He can face up and shoot over the defense, shoot off the dribble, or shoot off the catch. Solid defensively, he contests shots and is a decent shot-blocker for a guard. Fights through screens and keeps a low stance.
4. Kobe Carr – North Torrance 2024
Carr was incredibly active around the rim. He’s long and athletic and is deceptively strong considering his build. He can post up and play with his back to the basket. Good footwork, patient and able to shoot a little hook shot. Very good rebounder especially on the offensive glass. He follows misses and gains extra possessions. Stays active around the rim.
