Wesley Yates Wesley Yates 6'4" | SG Beaumont United | 2023 State #36 Nation TX – Beaumont United (2023)
Wesley was a total machine of destruction in his team’s contest against Saint Pius on Saturday, wrecking every bit of the competition in front of him. He could not be stopped as he showed extreme proficiency from behind the three point line and was able to get to the rim at will and finish over the opposition. This was my first time watching Wesley play live and it was one of the best displays of basketball I have seen all season long, simply put, it is easy to see why he is the top consensus player in Houston. Yates showed exceptional awareness and IQ on both sides of the floor and was able to lead his Wolves squad to a blowout win. Wesley recently committed to Washington and will be a huge force to reckon with at the collegiate level next season!
Michael Collins Michael Collins 6'1" | PG Shadow Creek | 2025 State TX – Shadow Creek (2025)
Michael played the role of a lockdown defender in his Shark’s squad contest against Mayde Creek. Collins was not afraid to get up in the face of his matchup and this led to multiple steals on the defensive side of the ball and easy transition points for the young guard. He also showed deep range, hitting some clutch three pointers that further extended Shadow Creek’s blowout lead over the competition, and Michael had no problem driving to the basket and converting on and-1 opportunities at the foul line. He will continue to be a pest on defense and an essential part of Shadow Creek this season if they are to make a deep playoff run.
Qasim Boyd Qasim Boyd 6'0" | PG Dickinson | 2024 State TX – Dickinson (2024)
Boyd was a major part of his team’s two wins on Saturday against two tough opponents in Second Baptist and Cy Ranch. Qasim showed himself to be a knockdown shooter under pressure, hitting shots from long range over the defenders’ outstretched arms and continued to show why his passing is underrated as he was always able to find an open teammate for a knockdown shot. Boyd’s lateral quickness on defense was also super impressive as his matchup was never able to speed past him and if he did get beat, Qasim was able to easily pick the offensive player’s pocket from behind and convert the steal into an easy fastbreak layup. Boyd showed why is he an underrated guard in Houston for the class of 2024 and will continue to make a big impact for the Gators this season.
Andrew Rose- Summer Creek (2023)
Andrew came away with some big contributions in the Bulldog games on Saturday against Elkins and Cy Ranch. Rose showed his effectiveness in blowing by defenders to the rim and was also proficient in pulling up for midrange jumpers as well. He was very vocal on defense and was able to be an emotional leader for his team in the long run, leading Summer Creek to a 1-1 record for the day. Rose showed tremendous hustle in both games, diving for loose balls and never being afraid to make the extra swing pass. He will continue to thrive in a great Bulldogs offense and will strive to be one of the best players on the defensive side as well.
