Weaton, seen to the right scoring on the block, is the leading returning scorer and rebounder in the conference and he’ll be looking to lead the Trojans to the top of the conference as a senior. An athletic big man who can finish above the rim, control the glass, and occasionally stretch the floor, he’s a matchup nightmare within this league.
First Team
2023 Max Weaton Max Weaton 6'6" | PF Fairfield | 2023 State IA (Fairfield): 19.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.4 steals, 1.3 blocks, 60.2 FG%
A bouncy 6-4/6-5 big man who runs the floor extremely well, Weaton was dominant as a junior, averaging a double-double and shooting over 60% from the floor. He has the athleticism and size to defend multiple positions and he has really good touch around the rim.
2023 Ethan Patterson Ethan Patterson 5'11" | SG Washington | 2023 State IA (Washington): 16.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 88.9 FT%
Patterson led the Demons in scoring as a junior, putting up over 16 points a game despite not shooting it as well from behind the arc as he did as a sophomore. He emerged as a strong secondary ball-handler and decision-maker last season and has really improved the ability to create his own shot.
2023 Merquiche Lewis Jr (Burlington): 13.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.2 steals, 55.1 FG%
Lewis helped lead the Grayhounds to the state tournament last season for the first time since 1987. A long, athletic wing who can defend multiple positions and get to the rim at will, he was extremely efficient as a junior and will be asked to take on an even bigger role as a senior.
2023 JJ Lane JJ Lane 5'9" | PG Fairfield | 2023 State IA (Fairfield): 12.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.3 steals
A 5-9 lead guard who gets others involved at a high clip, Lane led the Trojans in assists and steals as a junior. He does a good job using his quick hands and feet to impact the game defensively.
2024 Payton Hagans Payton Hagans 6'0" | SG Mount Pleasant | 2024 State IA (Mount Pleasant): 12.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals
Hagans is coming off a strong summer with the Iowa Barnstormers as a perimeter scorer, shooting the ball really well off both the dribble and the catch. He’s a talented three-level scorer who can handle it and get others involved.
