A talented 6-6 wing who can do a little bit of everything, Smith is a major matchup problem with his size and ability to control the game on both ends of the floor. The Warhawks figure to be the best team in the division this year and Smith is their best player, hence the POY honor.
First Team
2023 Nash Smith Nash Smith 6'6" | SF North Mahaska | 2023 State IA (North Mahaska): 19.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.3 steals, 52.6 FG%, 38.8 3P%
Smith does a little bit of everything for the Warhawks – he’s at the top of their halfcourt trapping defense, he handles it and gets others involved, he scores from all three levels, and he rebounds at a high clip. A skilled do-it-all wing, he’ll be pushing for all-state honors this year.
2023 Masin Shearer Masin Shearer 5'8" | PG Montezuma | 2023 State IA (Montezuma): 14.1 points, 1.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.3 steals
The top returning scorer for the Braves, Shearer is a talented three-level scorer who really emerged as a strong playmaker last year for Montezuma. Following the graduation of Eddie Burgess, the Braves are fully Shearer’s team this year.
2023 Lane Harmon Lane Harmon 6'1" | SF North Mahaska | 2023 State IA (North Mahaska): 13.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.2 steals, 47.3 FG%, 41.4 3P%, 75.4 FT%
Harmon’s jumper looks a bit unorthodox, but he’s a knockdown shooter who moves well without the ball in his hands and he’s capable of getting scorching hot from deep. He’s a solid ball-handler and decision-maker who also has a knack for jumping passing lanes on the defensive end.
2023 Conner Maston Conner Maston 6'1" | SG Lynnville-Sully | 2023 State IA (Lynnville-Sully): 13.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.2 steals, 47.2 FG%, 42.3 3P%, 78.5 FT%
The Hawks bring a ton of production back and Maston was their best perimeter shooting threat, knocking down over 42% of his 3-point attempts. He also showed some reliability as a secondary ball-handler and decision-maker.
2024 Corder Noun Harder Corder Noun Harder 5'9" | PG Lynnville-Sully | 2024 State IA (Lynnville-Sully): 10.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.5 steals
Noun Harder is a solid lead guard who dished out a team-high 5.6 assists a game as a sophomore to pace the Hawks’ offensive attack. His ability to get others involved and protect the ball is immensely important for this team.
