WMU rolled through division play last season and should do so again as they bring just about everyone back. Buffington is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, a physical forward who sets the tone on both ends of the floor. He’s the best player on the league’s best team.
First Team
2024 Cam Buffington Cam Buffington 6'2" | PF Winfield-Mt. Union | 2024 State IA (Winfield-Mt. Union): 19.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.2 steals, 1.2 blocks, 62.9 FG%
Buffington has been committed to play football at Iowa since his freshman year, and he uses a lot of those gridiron skills to dominate on the basketball court. He’s a big, athletic, and physical power forward who competes hard on the glass on both ends of the floor and he isn’t going to give up an inch of ground on either end.
2023 Grant Bender Grant Bender 6'2" | PF Hillcrest Academy | 2023 State IA (Hillcrest Academy): 18.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.8 steals, 1.0 blocks, 60.1 FG%
A talented and efficient 6-2 forward with great hands, footwork, and touch, Bender enjoyed a breakout junior year for the Ravens last season, leading the team in scoring and rebounding. With their top three scorers back, Hillcrest should be among the most improved teams in the division this year.
2023 Luke Long (Pekin): 13.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.6 blocks, 52.1 FG%
In a division full of talented power forwards, Long was another in the bunch. He led the Panthers in scoring and rebounding as a junior while shooting 52% from the floor. He’s also a strong interior presence on the defensive end, using his 6-3 frame to block 1.6 shots a game.
2024 Abram Edwards Abram Edwards 6'5" | PF Winfield-Mt. Union | 2024 State IA (Winfield-Mt. Union): 12.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals, 2.0 blocks, 51.5 FG%
The son of former Iowa State forward Klay Edwards, Abram is a long and skilled combo forward who is just scratching the surface of his potential. He has the ability to play a point-forward role for the Wolves, showing good court vision and passing instincts. He can step out and knock down an occasional 3 and he controls the glass on both ends of the floor.
2023 Cole Lipper Cole Lipper 6'4" | PF Mediapolis | 2023 State IA (Mediapolis): 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 56.8 FG%
A strong, physical 6-4 forward who is built like a defensive end, Lipper does a great job using his big frame to control the painted area and finish effectively around the rim.
