Gamepoint Basketball and Torrey Pines High School organized the six-game event, which featured 12 of the top basketball teams from the San Diego/ Southwest Riverside County region.
In the showcase’s featured nightcap, Mikey Williams Mikey Williams 6'3" | CG San Ysidro | 2023 State #12 Nation CA-S dazzled en route to an event-high 42 points in a close win over Carlsbad. We talked about his performance in our first report.
In this report, we look at other standout performances from the showcase.
Jaden Herrera Jaden Herrera 6'0" | SG Del Norte | 2023 CA-S , 5-11 2023 G, Del Norte
Herrera dominated Vista in the early stages of the game scoring on assertive drives to the basket through contact, and hitting open threes off the catch. A physically well-built scorer, Herrera knows how to get down hill and puts pressure on rim protectors by getting into their chest and neutralizing their length. And if left open, he’s as accurate a spot-up shooter as we have in San Diego.
Christian Brown Christian Brown 6'5" | SF La Costa Canyon | 2023 State CA-S , 6-5 2023 W, La Costa Canyon
Brown did what he could to keep his team in the game by scoring from multiple levels and rebounding the ball, two of his biggest strengths. He moves well without the ball, and utilizes slip screens to get open looks in the pick-and-roll. If left open even for a second, he’s an automatic spot-up shooter.
CJ Hofmeister, 5-8 2023 G, Mission Hills
Hofmeister was scoring from every level in the blowout win over Poway. A noted catch-and-shoot threat, Hofmeister showed off some crafty ball handling to create shots from midrange and some nice finishes over the defense in the paint. Both he and Jack Jillson Jack Jillson 5'10" | SG Mission Hills | 2024 State CA-S did a good job setting the table for their teammates, racking up a number of assists off of dribble drives.
Chris Carrillo, 5-10 2025 PG, La Jolla Country Day
If Anthony Aruffo Anthony Aruffo 6'1" | SG La Jolla Country Day | 2023 CA-S started the Torreys on the road to the win, it was Carrillo that closed the deal. The crafty true point guard knows when to create for himself and when to set up his teammates, and late in games, he has the confidence and the moves to get into the paint and finish with soft touch around the basket, and has become a better free throw shooter to close out games.
Tony Duckett Tony Duckett 6'2" | CG Carlsbad | 2024 State CA-S , Jr., 6-2 2024 G, Carlsbad
Duckett heated up in the second half, knocking down threes and scoring through and around contact on drives. He’s a crafty scorer off the bounce and has the length and ability to contort around defenders, or finish through them. He’s a very good finisher in traffic.
