Team comments from coach Bill Marquardt
“We return five players who played some quality minutes last year, including two starters. We should eventually be a sound team defensively, and will be improved offensively.“
“Our depth and size are concerning, and we’ll have only 12 high school kids in the program. Rebounding and defending post players are our main concerns. We shot the ball better as the year went on last season, and that should be our team strength this year.“
“We have a core group of kids who really want to be successful; their off-season commitment is excellent and they are coachable and willing to work hard. Our admin and community are supportive as we attempt to improve the direction of the program. Assistant coach Kory Muller is experienced and knowledgeable.“
Region 5B comments from coach Marquardt
“Viborg-Hurley lost several key players but will be the heavy favorite in our Region. Freeman AcademyMarion and Irene-Wakonda will be good, and after those three teams, the rest of us will all feel like we have a chance to win a post-season game or two. OTHER TEAMS: Gayville-Volin, Alcester-Hudson, Freeman, Menno, Scotland, Centerville.“
Tornado Schedule Comments with coach Marquardt
“We’ve added the Parkston and DWU Classics to our schedule. Canistota will be a top-five Class “B” team; Viborg-Hurley and Dells St. Mary both teams are going to be good, and have added quality transfers. Most of the teams on our schedule return key players.“
