There were 17 teams in attendance and over 20 college coaches in the building, giving players a great chance for exposure.
Here, we take a look at some of the top performers from the North Carolina high school programs in attendance.
You can watch all of the games live on the CBG Live Network.
Aaron Talbert | 6’0” PG | Combine 2023
Talbert was fantastic for Combine in their two games on Sunday, and he’ll be very important for their success in the Elite Prep League this year. The 6’0” lead guard is super crafty off the bounce and is able to get in the lane to make plays or finish in the paint, he can move off the ball where he can drill it from deep and he sets the tone well on both ends of the floor.
Aaron Hall | 6’8” F | Combine 2023
Hall is a very intriguing prospect as he has terrific size as a hybrid forward and he has a solid skillset that translates well to the next level if he can show consistency in his game. At 6’8” he’s a guy who can really shoot it from deep and has the ability to put it on the deck against slower bigs, he pursues the basketball and rebounds well and he has all the physical tools to guard almost every position on the floor.
Shaedon Simpson | 6’6” WG | Combine 2023
Simpson is perhaps the most intriguing player on this Combine roster as the 6’6” wing has been out of basketball for a while due to a knee injury and this was his first competitive action since being cleared, and he showed a lot of upside moving forward. He clearly has good size and should fill out nicely as he puts on weight, he’s a big time leaper who can get downhill and finish around the rim with authority and he’s a knock down shooter from deep as well.
Georges Archer | 6’5” WG | Combine 2023
Archer came back to VA where he played high school basketball in Virginia Beach, and he had some moments where you remembered that he was one of the best players in the 757 over the past few years. He scored the ball in bunches showing his ability to make shots from multiple levels, he showed his athleticism finishing around the rim and rebounding and he defended well on and off the basketball.
Davin Cosby | 6’5” WG | Word of God 2023
Cosby returned to the CBG where the Richmond native helped make a name for himself and his talented Word of God team, which only brought half their team and left multiple high major guys at home, went undefeated against a couple of very talented teams. The 6’5” Alabama commit showed that he’s an elite shot maker as he shot it very well from deep showing effortless range and the ability to set his feet quickly, he showed the ability to create shots in isolation situations and he handled the ball well initiating in the offense at times.
Isaiah Coleman Isaiah Coleman 6'5" | SF Word of God | 2023 State #59 Nation NC | 6’5” WG | Word of God 2023
Coleman is another big time CBG alumni who has had a ton of success at these events and the nationally ranked wing did just that showing his ability to play with the ball in his hands and make plays for himself and others off the bounce. The College of Charleston commit was excellent in the pick-and-roll showing his ability to score out of it, he made tough shots from multiple levels and showed he doesn’t need much space to get his shot off and as always he made it look easy as he took over multiple games at times.
Truman Claytor Truman Claytor 6'6" | SF New Life Christian | 2023 State NC | 6’5” WG | Word of God 2023
Clayton is one of the best available wings you’ll still find in the high school ranks, as he has a mix of good size and he’s a very talented shooter who can get hot quickly and knock down shots in succession. He moves well off the ball to get open and stays shot ready, he has great form from deep and a quick release and is very consistent and he showed he’s underrated as a shot creator who can get to spots and make tough shots.
Antonio Hurns | 6’8” F | Word of God 2023
Hurns may be a little overlooked on this super talented Word of God team, but any coach that is looking for a hybrid forward should take a look at Hurns who played with great energy and made plays across the board. At 6’8” he has great size and is an explosive athlete who was all over the rim throughout the event, he showed good ball skills handling it and getting to the rim off the bounce and he has all the tools to be a very versatile defender moving forward.
