There were plenty of good prospects who competed well on the first day of this event. PH NorCal took this opportunity to highlight prospects in the 2023 class that weren’t ranked or we haven’t seen in a while. Here’s a few that played well on Saturday.
E’Jay Rogers 6’4 W/F of Family First, Vanden HS
Rogers a transfer from Benicia HS. He’s another long winged, versatile type player who plays defense, and will add scoring to a team that’s already long, and athletic. The games we saw, he brought good energy off the bench. He hit a couple of corner 3’s, and got up and down the court good in transition. He handles, passes, and moves in open court. He’s active on the defensive side of the ball. He’ll. help on the boards. He’ll be a contributor.
Max Manfredi 6’5 W/F of All-Net, Ponderosa HS
Manfredi a transfer sat out this past season. He’s a player we haven’t seen before. We liked the energy he brought to the court. He goes all out on both ends of the court. A solid body, good strength, with a good all-around skill-set. He goes after rebounds, handles okay in open court, and goes up strong in the paint. He takes good shots, but needs to convert his opportunities into points. He’s on the Wright’s Watch List.
Joshua Mathews Joshua Mathews 6'4" | SG Monte Vista | 2023 State 6’6 W/F of Kingdom basketball Black, Monte Vista HS
Mathews is a good player we haven’t seen in a while. He’s grown a few inches, and is a solid basketball prospect who’s been a consistent contributor to this team for a while now. He’s fundamentally sound, takes good care of the ball, sees the court to make good passes. He finds open spots to hit 3ptrs. He uses his dribble to get into the paint for points, and help on the boards.
Jacob Florence 6’2 Guard of All-Net, Ponderosa HS
A guard that does a little bit of everything on the court. A good ball handler who attacks the paint hard off the dribble, he has good balance to play off two feet in the paint. He’s willing to take a hit going to the basket in transition. He could be the floor leader on this team. He runs the offense good, and he’s got foot speed to defend hard. He can hit the open 3ptr.
Elijah Lewis 6’3 Guard of Family First, Vanden HS
Lewis a big guard who’s versatile enough, to play and fill multiple roles on this team. He’s a good athlete with speed, and mobility to hound the ball handler, switch on to bigger players, and defend other positions. He looks like a pass first guard, but has the handles, and speed to go by defenders in transition and half-court.
