Today, we’ll take a look at part one of the players transferring out of the state of VA and what they bring to their new team.
Michael Ojo Michael Ojo 6'7" | C Princess Anne | 2023 VA | 6’8” F 2023
Previous School: Princess Anne
New School: Moravian (NC)
Ojo was a breakout player in the Beach District last year and was on his way to being a favorite to be Beach District Player of the Year until he was ruled ineligible due to him having reclassified earlier in his career, prompting his move to Moravian. He should turn heads on a team that has a number of college prospects as at his size he’s intriguing with his ability to put it on the deck and get downhill where he can use his size and athleticism to finish above the rim, he can knock down shots from deep and in the midrange and he can make plays defensively with his length and athleticism.
Del Jones Del Jones 6'2" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 CA-S | 6’2” PG 2024
Previous School: Bishop O’Connell
New School: Huntington Prep (WV)
Jones was always someone you knew would be very good from his freshman season, but between his sophomore year at O’Connell and his summer with Team Durant 17U he’s established himself as one of the top young guards on the east coast and Huntington is happy to have him as the lead guard for their talented team. The 6’2” guard is super slippery and shifty off the bounce as he has a quick first step and changes speeds and directions well, he can get to spots where he can make tough shots from all three levels, he’s an adequate playmaker as well and he is a very underrated defender as he moves his feet well and is pesky and annoying when guarding the ball.
Jadyn Harris Jadyn Harris 6'6" | PF Bishop O'Connell | 2024 State #239 Nation VA | 6’6” F 2024
Previous School: Bishop O’Connell
New School: Long Island Lutheran (NY)
Harris showed a lot of promise early in his career at O’Connell, but he really saw his stock start to rise this summer playing with Team Thrill, and he’s moving up to LI Lutheran with a few other DMV prospects in Jayden and Jacob Ross who were formally at Saint James. Harris provides versatility as he can either be a big 3 or a small ball 4, he is a strong athlete who is explosive and can finish in the paint in traffic and above the rim and he can put it on the deck and blow by slower defenders as well.
Machi Chester Machi Chester 6'3" | PG Friendship Collegiate | 2024 State MD | 6’4” WG 2024
Previous School: Bishop O’Connell
New School: Rock Creek Christian
Chester is another O’Connell player who is the move and he’s going to a Rock Creek place where he could shine as the go-to scoring option and he has a versatile bag to do so. At 6’4” he has good size and a strong build that allows him to get downhill and finish through traffic consistently, he has the ability to create space and knock down shots consistently from the midrange and from deep and when he gets it going he’s a real threat to score it in bunches and take over.
Kade Sebastian | 6’3” WG 2025
Previous School: John Champe
New School: DeMatha (MD)
Sebastian was one of the top freshman in the NOVA public schools last year at Champe as he put up big numbers consistently, and he’ll move to DeMatha who is in somewhat of a rebuilding phase but his ability to shoot the ball from deep will get him early playing time. He has deep and effortless range off the catch and can put it on the deck and attack closeouts, he moves well off the ball to get open and knows how to get square and he plays with a great motor and makes all the hustle plays defensively.
Cole Bowser | 6’4” WG 2025
Previous School: Colgan
New School: DeMatha (DC)
Bowser is another player who had a good freshman season at a public school before heading to DeMatha and while he’s coming off an injury from late in the summer he should be a surprise player in the WCAC this year. The 6’4” wing is very long and uses his length to get deflections and stay in the passing lanes, he’s a knock down shooter from deep with a quick release and his size allows him to get off shots with little to no room and he can get downhill and finishes well around the basket too.
