Today, we’ll take a look at part four of the players transferring in or within of the state of VA and what they bring to their new team.
Doyle Brown Doyle Brown 6'1" | SG Bethel Academy | 2024 State VA | 6’3” WG 2024
Previous School: Centreville
New School: Flint Hill
Brown was a standout at Centreville the past couple of years and he chose to take the reclassification route and head to Flint Hill next season where he’ll provide an extra punch as a scorer and defender. He’s a very good defender both on and off the basketball, he can knock down shots consistently from deep and has a quick release and effortless range and he can drive in straight lines and finish in the midrange and at the rim as well.
Blake Neal Blake Neal 6'6" | PF St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2024 State VA | 6’5” F 2024
Previous School: Paul VI
New School: St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Neal is another player who chose the reclassification route transferring from PVI to SSSAS, a move that some have had success with in the past, and he had a good summer with them at DMV Live. He’s a hybrid forward who plays with a great motor on both ends of the floor, he can attack the rim in straight lines and transition and is an athletic finisher around the rim and he attacks the glass and wins 50-50 balls as well.
David Rochester David Rochester 6'8" | SG South Lakes | 2024 State VA | 6’7” WF 2024
Previous School: Bishop Ireton
New School: Bishop O’Connell
Rochester heads back to O’Connell after a year stint at Ireton and the young forward has a lot of intriguing tools that can make him a mismatch on the offensive end of the floor. At his size he has a great perimeter skillset including the ability to knock down shots from deep off the catch, he can put it on the deck and get to spots in the midrange where he can rise up and make contested shots and he has surprising wiggle off the bounce to get in the lane.
Shawn Long Shawn Long 6'5" | SG Hopewell Highschool | 2024 VA | 6’4” WF 2024
Previous School: Prince George
New School: Hopewell
Long makes the transfer from one Tricities county to another heading to Hopewell which has a lot of young guards who will benefit from someone like Long who is a talented shot maker. The 6’4” wing has good size to be able to put it on the deck and finish through traffic, he’s a good catch-and-shoot player from deep and he’s a solid rebounder and defender for his position as well.
Ashton Walker Ashton Walker 6'5" | PG Catholic | 2025 State #172 Nation VA | 6’0” PG 2025
Previous School: Salem (VB)
New School: Oak Hill Academy
Walker is one of the most impressive young guards we have seen in the 2025 class and after his freshman season at Salem he took an opportunity to transfer to the national powerhouse Oak Hill under new coach Yerrick Stoneman. Walker is well beyond his years as a PG as he plays with great pace and changes speeds and directions extremely well, he’s poised and sees the floor and handles pressure well and he can score it off the bounce from almost anywhere on the floor.
