Williams comes in as the clear-cut number one here being considered as not only a high-end D1 player but also a future NBA guy. He has the physical traits needed to dominate such as elite athleticism allowing him to play above the rim and a strong frame to bully smaller guards. He scores with ease from all three levels and shoots NBA-range three-pointers. Williams’s return to San Ysidro instantly propels them into the conversation as Open Divison favorites as he enters his senior year trying to take the Cougars back to the top as he did as a young freshman
2. Jurian Dixon Jurian Dixon 6'4" | SG St. Augustine | 2023 State #247 Nation CA-S (2023) | 6-4 G | St. Agustine |
Dixon is coming off an Open Divison title as well as the honor of being named player of the year in a stellar junior year and looks to establish himself as a high major D1 guy going into his final year with a Saints team bringing back all of their key players from their championship team. Dixon is a smooth basketball player and makes scoring look easy, he’s a swish army knife and does a little bit of everything for the Saints while being a factor on the defensive end as well. Dixon is a proven winner and looks to continue building his great resume as his St. Agustine team is expected to meet San Ysidro for an Open Division finals rematch
3. Christian Brown Christian Brown 6'5" | SF La Costa Canyon | 2023 State CA-S (2023) | 6-5 F | La Costa Canyon
Brown has made leaps of improvement in every year of play for the Mavericks and this senior year looks to be the one to push him into the conversation as one of the best players in SoCal. Brown’s size makes him a mismatch as his ball skills let him blow by bigger slower defenders and his size allows him to punish smaller players in the post. He has a great motor and is a force on the boards. Brown gets hot in a hurry scoring in bunches for LCC and can be a relentless finisher as well as a knockdown shooter. Brown and the Mavericks hope to build on a great season where they were one point away from the Open Division finals and look to be the favorites to win the North County Coastal League.
4. Kristian Gonzalez (2023) | 6-2 G | Mater Dei Catholic |
Gonzalez has had an amazing summer on the EYBL circuit and earned himself the attention and offers of D1 coaches. He’s extremely smooth with the ball and makes scoring look easy. Gonzalez excels at creating his own offense and is able to create and make tough looks. He has made strides athletically and has looked explosive this summer giving him that extra push into being an elite player. He is going to be the go-to guy for the Crusaders and looks to have his Mater Dei squad poised to make some noise in D1 CIF.
5. Cyprian Hyde Cyprian Hyde 6'10" | C Vista | 2023 State CA-S (2023) | 6-10 C | Vista |
Hyde has expanded his game each off-season and this year he has added the ability to be a consistent stretch big for the Panthers. The University of Portland commit is a force down low on the block and high post and is the heart and soul of his Vista team. Hyde makes points in the paint hard to come by and is always on the boards, each year Hyde has gotten more aggressive and playing above the rim and this season should be his best one yet. Hyde will give the Panthers a puncher’s chance in a tough North County Coastal league.
