Continue ReadingAlthough it’s already been a week and a half since the Oregon Top 250 Expo, our coverage of the event here on Prep Hoops is not done yet. For the rest of this week, we will take a look at each individual roster, breaking down this huge crop of talent from around the Pacific Northwest, player-by-player.
Here’s a look at Team Four:
Sebastian Stowasser Sebastian Stowasser 6'0" | CG Ashland | 2023 State OR (2023 Ashland)
Earning mention in our “Top Defenders” article, Stowasser really put in a lot of effort guarding perimeter players at the Expo. Offensively, he did a solid job of both scoring and facilitating and showed why he’s one of the straws that stirs the drink for a deep Ashland squad.
Gianni Altman Gianni Altman 5'10" | PG Gold Beach | 2023 State OR (2023 Gold Beach)
Altman made the trek all the way up to Portland from Gold Beach and proved guys from the South Oregon Coast can play. He was one of the top passers at the event (as featured in our “Top Passers” article) and used his length and athleticism to really create off the dribble and finish plays around the rim. He may be the biggest sleeper in the state’s senior class.
Asson Gelly Asson Gelly 5'11" | PG McDaniel | 2025 State OR (2025 Wells)
Gelly immediately made an impression in his first game at the Expo, exploding with seven made threes. The quick guard ended up proving himself as worthy of being named one of the “Top Shooters” and should get plenty of opportunity this season for new head coach Jonny Canalin at Wells.
Ryan Barone Ryan Barone 6'1" | CG Jesuit | 2026 State OR (2026 Jesuit)
While he didn’t get a ton of chances, one thing was clear when Barone got the ball – he’s got a sweet-looking lefty stroke. The freshman didn’t force the issue and played great team ball, which seems to indicate he’ll fit right into the Jesuit system.
Kyle Chavez (2023 Molalla)
A hard-working guard, Chavez played hard at the Expo. The 5-foot-10 point guard was in control of the ball at all times, looked to set up the open man, and was a great team player.
TJ Marshall (2024 Annie Wright-WA)
A young swingman from the Tacoma area, Marshall didn’t get a ton of opportunities but made the most out of his time at the Expo by playing hard and hustling on the defensive end.
Gavin Gross Gavin Gross 6'6" | SF West Linn | 2025 State OR (2025 Jesuit)
Gross made the most impression on coaches with his ability to guard multiple positions with his combination of height and versatility. At 6-foot-3, he was the perfect size to match up with bigger players inside yet also mobile enough to hang with perimeter players. Offensively he showed he could hit open shots as well.
Deon Best Deon Best 6'0" | PG Oregon City | 2024 State OR (2024 Oregon City)
Best is a hard-nosed, strong floor leader who made some strong forays to the basket for buckets or dishes to outside shooters. He made good decisions and really impressed as a true point guard. This helped him earn mention in our “Top Glue Guys/Blenders” article.
Elliot Mathews Elliot Mathews 6'1" | CG Grant | 2025 State OR (2025 Grant)
Another young guard on Team 3, Mathews provided plenty of hustle and motor when he was on the floor at the Expo. He played good team ball offensively and did a nice job taking care of the rock.
Owen Nathan Owen Nathan 6'2" | CG Roosevelt | 2025 State OR (2025 Roosevelt)
Nathan earned a nod in our “Top All-Around” article because he did a little bit of everything on the court at the Beaverton YMCA. Operating within the flow of the game, he hit open jumpers, scored off drives to the hoop, looked for the open man, and worked hard on the defensive end – all things he currently does right now on a talent-laden Roosevelt team.
