With another year upon us, there has been some change and movement throughout the off-season within the last couple of months. Here is a few transfers that can and will make an impact in their new locations in the 2022-23 season.
Judah Casaus Judah Casaus 6'0" | SG Del Norte | 2023 State NM has played the last three years for Del Norte High School. This past off-season, he announced via Twitter, that he was 110% committed to joining ABC Prep. It was arguably one of the biggest moves of the off-season considering the type of player Judah Casaus Judah Casaus 6'0" | SG Del Norte | 2023 State NM is on both ends of the floor. Judah helped Del Norte win their first basketball state championship in school history as a sophomore two seasons ago. He has quickly made an impact for ABC Prep and will continue to do so throughout the rest of his senior year. The move is a tough loss for the Del Norte Knights but a great addition for ABC Prep.
Judah Casaus Judah Casaus 6'0" | SG Del Norte | 2023 State NM isn’t the only Del Norte Knight from last season that made a transfer move in the off-season. Teammate Harrison Frank Harrison Frank 6'1" | SF Del Norte | 2023 State NM is also transferring to ABC Prep and will take his talents to the grind session this year. Harrison Frank Harrison Frank 6'1" | SF Del Norte | 2023 State NM is a reliable three-point shooter and bucket getter who can space the floor with his long-range shooting ability. He is a long and versatile player that can play multiple positions with his size. He is a nice acquisition for ABC Prep.
Micah Munoz Micah Munoz 6'3" | PF Albuquerque Prep | 2024 State NM transferred from Cibola High School to West Mesa at the middle of last season but didn’t suit up for the Mustangs until this summer in the off-season. After getting a first look at Micah with his new teammates, it looks like a great fir for both sides. Micah is an underrated big that will play in some big moments this year for the Mustangs who are looking like potential contenders for the 5A State Championship this upcoming season. He is a high energy guy that finds many ways to impact the game with his scoring, rebounding and physicality.
Just this past month in early August, Gabe Trujillo transferred from West Mesa High School to Valley High School. In my opinion its a big move that can have an affect on both school’s for the next three years considering Gabe is only a sophomore. After a solid freshman year for West Mesa and a solid off-season, it’s clear that Gabe Trujillo is ready to compete against some of the states top players after holding his own against many in the off-season. He is the type of player in my opinion that can be a player Valley build around for the next few years. Gabe is a scoring point guard that can be a playmaker on the floor and a player you can win with as the primary scoring option. This is a great pick up for Valley which already has a lot of young talent and a tough loss to West Mesa in the present and the future.
One of the biggest acquisitions in the New Mexico athletics community was Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'2" | SF West Mesa | 2024 State NM leaving V.Sue Cleveland to join an up and coming West Mesa team. This transfer has a huge impact on basketball and football for the West Mesa Mustangs considering the great athletes that Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'2" | SF West Mesa | 2024 State NM is. The West Mesa Mustangs had their best season last year in quite sometime and are bringing back most of their roster from last season. Now with the transfer of Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'2" | SF West Mesa | 2024 State NM coming from a terrific program at Cleveland, he brings championship pedigree and experience to this club. He can play multiple positions for the Mustangs and helps elevate them to to another level from last year.
ABC Prep has received many transfers throughout the off-season and none bigger than Michael Day Michael Day 6'10" | C ABC Prep | 2023 NM . He is a transfer from Idaho that has joined ABC Prep in their upcoming season this fall. Michael is a near seven-foot tall big man that will bring size and his interior ability on both sides of the floor for ABC Prep. He really moves around the floor well and will be huge X-Factor for ABC Prep’s success this upcoming year.
Diego Miscles-Rivera
Diego Miscles-Rivera
Diego Miscles Rivera played for the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars his first two years as a freshman and sophomore. Shortly after the season, he transferred to Valley High School and brings plenty of State Tournament experience after playing in the 5A State Semifinals the last two years with the Jaguars. He is a wing player that has an all-around type of game. I’ve seen Diego dominate on the offensive side of the ball and shown the ability to go create his own shot whenever he wants too. This will be a fresh start for him at Valley since their was so many good scorers on the Jaguars, he’ll be given more opportunities to showcase his game this year.
