Continue ReadingThe summer is over and as we head into fall leagues in preparation for the start of the season in a few months, the Class of 2023 rankings have been updated and released. There are a number of new names added to the list from last time – here’s a look at the top ones.
30 – Bogdan Chobu Bogdan Chobu 5'10" | CG Westview | 2023 State OR , Westview
There’s no doubt Chobu’s name is familiar to the rankings as he was in the top ten in the Class of 2023 as a freshman at Liberty. He fell off the list after making the decision to attend school in Florida, but he’s back in Beaverton at Westview and thus, back in the rankings. The senior can really create his own shot as well as for others, which is what head coach Mike Wolf is looking for in a bounceback year for the Wildcats.
47 – Bugsy Jensen Bugsy Jensen 6'1" | CG Churchill | 2023 State OR , Churchill
Jensen is another familiar name, it’s just that we erroneously had him in the Class of 2022 previously. That’s corrected now and the 6-foot-1 high-energy combo guard will be a key guy new Lancers head coach Sky Stickney will be counting on as he takes over in 2022-23.
59 – Jace Aguilar Jace Aguilar 6'0" | PG Stayton | 2023 State OR , Stayton
Small school players always emerge during the seaosn and Aguilar was one of those as he helped Jefferson to a great run in 2A. He continued to impress with his toughness in the backcourt playing AAU basketball with Oregon Triple Threat. He has transferred to Stayton and will be with the Eagles for his senior season.
61 – Silas Wright Silas Wright 6'8" | SF Ashland | 2023 State OR , Ashland
Ashland is blessed with some of the best size in the state – at any classification – and Wright is an example. At 6-foot-8, he actually plays on the wing which utilizes his ability to hit perimeter shots and create off of the dribble. He could be primed for a breakout senior campaign.
70 – Mason Bennett Mason Bennett 6'4" | SF Grants Pass | 2023 State OR , Grants Pass
Grants Pass will be looking for new scoring options with the graduation of Dylan Neufeld and Bennett will be a key guy. Well built at 6-foot-4, he’s one of the best athletes in the Southern Oregon area and is able to score in a variety of ways. If you’re looking for a sleeper of a prospect this season, there may be no one bigger than Bennett.
71 – Devon Anderson Devon Anderson 6'2" | SG North Eugene | 2023 OR , North Eugene
Anderson’s future may very well be in football as he’s a talented two-way quarterback/defensive back/athlete. The 6-foot-2 senior is a darned good basketball player though and uses his athleticism to his advantage, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
75 – Cooper Case Cooper Case 6'4" | SF Churchill | 2023 State OR , Churchill
Case is an inside/outside type of player that is extremely efficient on the offensive end – he led all of 5A in field goal percentage at over 71 percent. He plays the game with a high motor and won’t back down from anyone defensively or on the glass.
78 – Vernon Onick Vernon Onick 6'3" | CG Heritage | 2023 State WA , Gresham
Coming down from the Couv (Heritage HS) is Onick, who will look to make an impact at Gresham. In summer ball, he was very aggressive taking the ball to the basket and has the ability to knock down some perimeter jumpers as well.
80 – Izzy Golden Izzy Golden 6'0" | PG Ashland | 2023 State OR , Ashland
Golden emerged as a junior as one of the top assist men and three-point shooters in 5A. He’s certainly a marksman from outside but is also very effective at pushing the ball up court in transition.
81 – David Ghetie David Ghetie 5'11" | PG Lakeridge | 2023 State OR , Lakeridge
Lakeridge continues to build their new program under head coach David Duong and Ghetie has been a building block. The 5-foot-11 guard is tough and is capable of scoring in bunches.
