Continue ReadingThroughout the summer, Bryson Chambers Bryson Chambers 6'4" | SG Harvest Christian Academy Lantana | 2023 State TX really emerged as a point guard, putting his floor general tendencies and ability to run the show on full display as he controlled the tempo, created offense and kept his teammates involved. Chambers approaches each play and possession with a plan before he even crosses halfcourt. Once Bryson has a defense figured out he knows exactly what move he’s going to do, which shot he’s going to take, which pass he’s going to make, and what the results or outcome will be before it even happens. This lead guard has such a smooth and controlled handle that he can be a relentless slasher at times. Chambers is consistently able to attack the basket and get off his floater or layup against anyone from every angle no matter how tightly defended he is, showing strong blow-by skills and a soft touch to follow. Bryson carried the scoring load all summer long and also continuously came up big in the clutch on the defensive end as well as the offensive end by nailing game-winning and game-tying buckets when they were needed the most. With all of that said, Bryson’s most noteworthy trait is his great leadership on the floor and on the bench. Chambers is the type of player that holds himself and his teammates accountable and constantly proves to be an extension of the coach on the court.
Sammon Johnson Sammon Johnson 6'2" | SG Colleyville Heritage | 2023 State TX is a great glue guy and an excellent teammate who’s willing to do all of the little things to impact the game as a whole, not just on the scoreboard. Tremendous versatility, well-polished and advanced all-around skill set, good feel for the game, always a step ahead of the competition, and contributes in every way possible, Johnson becomes a game-changer the instant he steps foot onto the floor. His decision-making is very impressive, everything he does is conducive to winning games. Sammon is a selfless team-first ballplayer who’s always more than willing to make the extra pass, crash the glass, stay on the move without the ball, hit open jumpers, and slow down some of the more talented scorers in the country.
Highlights
Kason Simpson Kason Simpson 6'4" | SG Liberty Christian | 2023 State TX has been showing off sharpshooter capabilities for some time now, he’s proven to be a high-volume catch-and-shoot specialist who’s a consistent shot maker from deep with unlimited range. The 6-foot-4 jumpshooter gets the ball up and out smoothly in a single fluid motion the moment he touches the rock whether the defense is there or not. Simpson isn’t phased by closeouts and doesn’t need any space to fire and knock down a jumper from the perimeter. He steps into each jumpshot with the perfect elevation, a high release point, and a super quick trigger. This senior prospect is in store for a breakout season, he brings a special type of spark and energy to the floor with his demoralizing three-point shot-making and continues to show growth and remarkable potential as a shooting specialist or stretch forward due to his size along with his ability to spread the floor and pick-and-pop.
Teddy Tapken
Teddy Tapken
Tapken is one of Austin’s top forwards, he plays with a knack for controlling things down low thanks to his tenacity on the boards and ability to score by staying active and agile near the post. On a game-to-game and nearly play-to-play basis, Tapken shows off his ability to always be in the right spot at the right time, particularly for rebounds, putbacks and drop-off passes. Great patience when creating and looking to score on the block, Teddy often utilizes head fakes and initiates contact while putting a shot up showing an uncanny knack for finishing plays off balance due to his strong upper and lower body. The best thing about Teddy’s scoring in the lane is his excellent understanding of how to use his body and strength against bigger and taller opponents and within a limited amount of space.
Armani Reese
Armani Reese
Armani Reese has a noticeable paint presence as a rim protector and shot changer, Reese waits with his hands held high in anticipation of the shot attempt before pinning it off the backboard or swatting it clean out of the air. This senior’s length really forces a dribble penetrator to think twice before coming inside or makes them have to settle for tough contested shots. Armani Reese is also a constant threat on the glass due to his reach and determination which goes unmatched at times, allowing him to get a hand on most, if not, all rebounds, limiting second-chance boards on the defensive end. Reese shows versatility as a defender, he gets into a good low defensive stance for someone of his stature when defending on the perimeter and locking ball-handlers down with his quick feet and his ability to beat a guard to their attack point. Armani Reese has potential as a formidable defender with all of the physical tools to go along, standing at 6-foot-7-inches with an athletic frame that’s built to add muscle and a scary wingspan that allows his teammates to put defensive pressure on opponents knowing he’ll be there to challenge long passes and stop easy shots at the rim.
