We got through another high school regular season and summer basketball. Heading into this new upcoming school year, there has been several players that have raised their stock over the past couple of months. This will be part four and the final of the stock risers series of articles.
Jonah Lopez Jonah Lopez 6'2" | SG Rio Grande | 2023 State NM : 6’2 Forward “Rio Grande” Class of 2023
Jonah Lopez Jonah Lopez 6'2" | SG Rio Grande | 2023 State NM had a breakout season for the Rio Grande Ravens this past season. He averaged a team high 17.2 points per game last season which was among the top 25 in the state of New Mexico. He also averaged a near double-double by grabbing 9.1 rebounds per game as the teams leading rebounder. He is a player that is crafty with the ball in his hands. Jonah is dangerous in transition and often makes the right decisions with ball. He has a nice pull up jumper in the mid-range area.
Nick Sanchez Nick Sanchez 5'11" | PG Artesia | 2023 State NM : 5’9 Guard “Artesia” Class of 2023
Nick Sanchez Nick Sanchez 5'11" | PG Artesia | 2023 State NM from Artesia High School stepped up to the plate last season. During his sophomore year he helped Artesia make it to the state championship game in 2021, this past year he picked up more of the scoring load. Nick showed consistency and and poise while leading them back to the state tournament this past spring. This summer he has played well with “D1 New Mexico” and taken his game too the next level.
Noah Gershon: 5’9 Guard “Clovis Christian” Class of 2023
Noah Gershon was one of the top scorers in the state this past season. Him and teammate Carter Teune led the team in scoring and was one of the top duos in their Class. Noah averaged an impressive 16.4 points per game while helping Clovis Christian reach the 1A State Championship game vs Magdalena. Noah plays the game the right way and can score at multiple facets of the game.
Sonny Ortiz Sonny Ortiz 6'5" | SF West Mesa | 2023 State NM : 6’4 Forward “West Mesa” Class of 2023
Sonny Ortiz Sonny Ortiz 6'5" | SF West Mesa | 2023 State NM had a lot of success this past year for the West Mesa Mustangs. He is one of the states top marksman from three-point range and has limitless range. Sonny has shown he can in the zone quickly and is tough to stop when he gets going. West Mesa did a good job running plays for him to get him going early. Sonny was also a good player to go to in the fourth quarters hitting big shots in crunch time. His play helped West Mesa have a lot of success last year.
EJ Jordan EJ Jordan 6'3" | SF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM : Forward “Volcano Vista” Class of 2023
EJ Jordan EJ Jordan 6'3" | SF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM won the state championship with Volcano Vista this past season and has taken his game too another level this summer. EJ has showed more confidence on the floor and taken the initiative as a leader on the floor with his teammates. He is a versatile player who can create his own shot off the dribble and can play off the ball as well. EJ is a team player who isn’t super ball dominant and knows when to be aggressive looking for his shots.
