Check out my analysis on some of the top 2024 point guards whose names you need to know for the upcoming season. These guys are likely to lead their high school teams to some special performances in the near future, and I cannot wait to see them perform soon. They really popped over the last few months and made a name for themselves through their stellar play in the circuit months.

[player_tooltip player_id="1218009" first="Jakeel" last="Registe"] 2024 6'5 Episcopal High School (Houston Hoops EYBL)

Jakeel was one of the most impressive guards in attendance with his ability to create separation with his handle, but also finish at the rim with his explosive athleticism. I loved watching him float toward the rim and change his shot angle to maneuver around his opponent in the paint. In the full court he is an absolute monster, constantly attacking defenders on the break and forcing them to make a decision. An aspect of his game that really stood out to me was his aggressiveness slashing and attacking the basket, but more importantly going after offensive rebounds. His consistency on the glass and his ability to finish tip ins allows him to get easy points in the paint. Registe finished tomahawk dunks and lobs that really got his team juiced and made everyone play harder off of his constant energy and aggression. He carries himself on the court as a hard working combo guard, and his explosive energy allows you to truly feel his presence as soon as you step into the gym. On the defensive end, he uses his frame and agility to not only stay in front of defenders but also poke the ball free. Time after time, he came up with steals by clamping up ball handlers on the sideline through full court pressure and allowing him to get easy points on the break (see video below, #2). His ability to truly do it all on both ends of the floor is incredibly impressive, and his willingness to defend positions 1-4 will make him a valuable prospect over the next two years. Registe is a prospect you MUST keep your eye on as he continues to develop over the next two years. I am expecting a massive junior campaign next year and I cannot wait to see what kind of waves he will make.

Kris White 2024 6'5 Killeen Ellison High School (ProSkills ATX Raign)

Kris is a complete shooting guard prospect with his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter, especially off the catch. He has a quick release and always stays ready to catch and shoot. He loves operating out of the corners, and is constantly in motion whenever he does not have the ball. He attacked hard closeouts and put pressure on the defense across all three levels of the court. Where he stood out to me was not his shot making ability, but his lankiness and willingness to rebound and defend. He is an active rebounder on both ends of the court, fighting for positoning and going up strong to collect defensive rebounds or go up for tip ins. I loved watching him scrap and defend on the ball, no matter who was on the other side of him. He was willing to defend any position, and with his frame showed an ability to defend small ball forwards and wings. I would like to see him work on initiating offense with a live dribble, and continuing to develop his ability to create space with a live dribble.

Declan Keeffe 2024 6'4 New Braunfels High School (AD Elite)

Declan is an aware player on both ends of the court who seems to be reading the game at a very high level. His frame allows him to affect the game in a plethora of ways, especially on the defensive end of the court. He has the ability to play big if necessary and defend multiple positions. On the offensive end of the court he is a comfortable scorer in the corners and can quickly get his shot up to punish the defense for a weak closeout. I loved how willing he was to fight on the offensive glass, getting multiple boards and tip ins for his teammates but also tipping the ball out to his teammates on the outside. He looks to have all of the tools to become an effective 3 and D type prospect at the next level.

Jarin Hall 2024 6'2 Harlan High School (HD Toros Elite)

Jarin is the ideal combo guard that coaches would love to get their hands on with his ability to score off the catch from the corners and wings, but also his ability to put the ball on the floor and hunt for his shot. I was very impressed by the ease in which the game seemed to come to him, scoring effortlessly from beyond the arc and in the mid-range. He is a natural scorer off the catch, making him a valuable weapon for any team. His ability to consistently space the floor and knock down shots will make himself an asset at the next level as well. He punishes the defense for relaxed closeouts with his quick shooting motion, but is also unafraid to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim if they close out too hard. Hall has been in the lab with John Lucas and his AAU team, usually something that is not unnoticed among college coaches. His skill is rapidly developing, especially with how well he gets into his shooting motion off the live dribble.

Elijah Guidry 2024 6'0 MacArthur High School, TX (North Houston Bandits 2023)

Elijah is a crafty and elusive combo guard who thrives at creating space and shaking his defenders. I saw one of the most intense matchups of the entire tournament with plenty of smack talk from coaches, parents and the players from both teams. Guidry was willing to go back and forth against some other highly skilled guards who attacked him on the defensive end of the court. He calmly went back at them and shifted their momentum with quick crossovers and his sneaky ability to find space. He has all the characteristics of a fighter and a dog on the court, and I cannot wait to watch him develop into a high level guard at the next level. This is one guard I can not wait to see in person again.
