#20 Zack Rygg Zack Rygg 6'3" | SG San Antonio Veterans Memorial | 2023 State TX 2023 6’2 Veterans Memorial High School, TX (Nike ProSkills SA 17U Black)
Zachery is a very skilled and athletic combo guard who loves doing all of the little things on the court, but also making shots anywhere on the court. I loved watching him work to dive after loose balls, but more importantly going after rebounds. He came away with a plethora of rebounds, and I was very impressed with his consistency on the glass for the guard position. He plays the game at a high level, and is not afraid to take on bigger wings on both ends of the floor. He showed an ability to consistently knock down shots off the catch from the corners and the wings. I was very impressed by his decision making on when to put the ball on the floor, and when to pull up or quickly catch and shoot.
#19 Zach Piatt 2023 6’1 Johnson High School, TX (Nike ProSkills SA 17U Red)
Zach is a high level shooter off the catch who specializes in his ability to space the floor and consistently be a shot making option from the perimeter. I was very impressed by his ability to turn the corner with a live dribble as well, he routinely showed an ability to get into the paint and finish over taller defenders. He has a nice floater that he uses at a very high level. He is great at playing off the ball and cutting behind a sleeping defender or moving to spot up in the corners and wings. He is not just an off ball player, he is a very smart and aware passer that always makes the right reads when he is getting downhill and drawing a second defender. I was very impressed by his calmness with a live dribble and his ability to make all of the right reads every time down.
#18 Camren Roper Camren Roper 6'1" | PG Byron P Steele | 2023 TX 2023 6’1 Steele High School (SA ProSkills 17U Black)
Highlights
Camren is an athletic combo guard who has really developed since the last time I have seen him, especially with his consistency from beyond the arc. He is great at getting to his shot off the bounce in the mid-range, but really affects this game with his nonstop energy on both ends of the court. He seems to have grown a bit since the last time I saw him in action, with his long arms still affecting every aspect of the game. He is an aggressive defender who thrives on that end of the floor. He is great at playing the passing lanes and coming up with steals in transition. He is aggressive when guarding on the perimeter and really seems to man up in the paint and can protect the rim.
#17 Jarek Schmittou 2023 5’10 Churchhill High School (SA Fire 17U)
Jarek is an aware combo guard who can score off the catch from beyond the arc, create looks for his teammates and also hunt his own shot across all three levels. I was very impressed by the ease in which he scored off the live dribble, constantly creating space with his crossovers and the threat he is to score in the paint. Schmittou scored very well but also was unselfish and routinely found his dominant big man on the block, showing off his ability to provide crisp and timely entry passes into the post. He understood the kind of mismatch he had on his team, and loved using it to manipulate the defense and force them to send two defenders at him.
#16 Boston Hart 2023 6’2 East Central High School, TX (Nike ProSkills San Antonio 2023 Red)
Boston is a creative scorer off the bounce who truly lived within all three levels of the floor with the ease in which he scored off the bounce. He knows the attention he receives from opposing defense’s and still got to the rim with ease and used his dribble drive penetration to create opportunities for his teammates. Whether he was firing out passes to his open shooters or making smart dump off passes to his big men, he always seemed to have his head up to dominant the competition. He has really long arms for his size, and he uses them extremely well on the defensive end where he can lock you up with intense on ball defense or throw back shots at the rim. I love the all around nature he has to his game, Hart is a very impressive scorer.
