Let’s take a look at a few as we approach mid-summer.
Michael Kalina was one of the hardest working players I saw last season with North Broward Prep. The 6-foot-1 point guard averaged 10.6 points, 4.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game while leading the Eagles to a 27-3 record. His competitiveness and playmaking ability has now earned him a spot with UCF. Kalina went toe-to-toe with some of the best competition South Florida has to offer, so I expect him to be more than prepared for the moment.
DeShayne Montgomery picked up an offer from Mount St. Mary’s (MD). The Mountaineers recently joined the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) after leaving the Northeast Conference. This was Montgomery’s first D1 offer. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 19.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game for Somerset Prep North Lauderdale. Montgomery uses his length well to score off the dribble. I also like his toughness near the basket. Montgomery runs with SOH elite.
2023 wing/forward Guilherme Tesch Guilherme Tesch 6'8" | SF North Broward Prep | 2023 FL earned an offer from Cal Poly. The 6-foot-9 Tesch averaged 16 points and five rebounds per game for North Broward Prep. Moreover, he shot 41-of-109 (38 percent) from deep. Tesch has a high arcing shot and exhibits plenty of range. He also does a nice job of putting the ball on the floor. Watch out for Tesch inside as his frame complements productivity in this area. He runs with SOH Elite.
2023 Anquan Boldin Jr Anquan Boldin Jr 6'5" | CG IMG Academy | 2023 FL . recently earned an offer from Metropolitan State. The Roadrunners compete in the Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The 6-foot-5 wing recently scored 25 points and hit four 3-pointers for Ball4lyfe over P.L.U.T.O. Moreover, one of those buckets was a game-winner in double overtime. The former St. Andrew’s product is now with IMG Academy. Boldin’s high-level athleticism and evolving ball skill has a ton of upside.
2023 Blake Wilson Blake Wilson 6'5" | SG Dwyer | 2023 State FL earned an offer from Life University (GA) in late June. The Running Eagles compete at the NAIA level. The 6-foot-5 wing plays with Ball4Lyfe and attends Dwyer High School. Wilson averaged 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a junior. His length and elite shooting ability (48 3pm) should have colleges calling. Wilson is also an excellent student with a 3.75 GPA.
