Illinois Bears 17U Tops Flee Club in Land of Lincoln Clash
Opened up Sunday with a matchup of Illinois squads as the Illinois Bears defeated Flee Club 66-55. It was a well-balanced attack for the Illinois Bears. They were pushed at the point by McKendree commit Grant Fridley. The Trenton Wesclin lead guard made great decisions with he ball on bullet passes and hitting his teammates off dribble penetration. He scored 16 points as well knocking in several threes and putting it on the deck. His running mates in the backcourt each had their moments. Carterville’s Caden Hawkins dropped 19 points in the victory draining an array of threes and being slick on drives to the cup. Cade Altadonna from Highland is a scoring lefty guard with a strong frame that can drain spot up shots. Inside it was Cobden’s Tyler Franklin that did most of the damage. Physical post defender and rebounder that can step out and hit a three while also attacking close outs. Went for 14 points.
Jaloni Johnson from Proviso East is primed for a big senior campaign. The 2023 shooting guard is a smooth scorer in the open floor that plays with a lot of speed and body control at the rim. Solid shooter too as he scored 17 points. Marshall big man Joel Brown finished a strong weekend with 16 points as the five man did his damage inside on put backs, hook shots, and up and unders.
OTOD 17U Knocks Off SSA Black as Both Teams Feature Star 2023s
OTOD out of Florida won over SSA Black 67-60 in a game that showcased a pair of under the radar prospects that might sneak into low-major/mid-major territory. Ty Owens from OTOD had a magnificent weekend and the point guard closed it out with another solid performance. The 6’1” floor general scored effectively from all three levels with a crisp pull up game and slick ball handling as he dropped 17 points in a win.
On the other side 6’5” Tyson Rudd proved to be a legit D1 prospect with good size on the wing with broad shoulders. He has a clean perimeter jumper and used his strength to finish on drives or rim runs for 16 points.
Full Package 17U Goes 4-0 With Dominant Win Against Ball 4 Lyfe
What a weekend for Full Package. They completely obliterated Ball 4 Lyfe 76-37 in their last game to go 4-0 on the weekend. It was the Jake Fiegen show for Full Package. The New Trier shooting guard was on fire from three draining five of them on his way to 30 points. Also showed versatility scoring in transition, off cuts, and hitting the glass. Without question a mid-major prospect. Also a huge outing from sleeper 2023 Stevenson wing David Sulnius as he had 16 points in the win. Versatile utility wing that hits spot up shots, passes, and finishes through contact.
Ball 4 Lyfe was led with a big game from Anquan Boldin. The strong and athletic wing showed off his explosiveness with several big dunks in front of his dad’s alma mater in the front row. Explosive slasher that plays above the rim with power. He had 14 points.
OWE 17U Closes Out Strong Weekend with Victory over Team 1848
Rock solid 3-1 weekend for OWE out of Louisiana which was capped off with a 70-64 victory over Team 1848. Really like the athleticism and how hard this group plays. They have some swagger too which starts with their point guard Chris Carpenter as the small lefty guard wins off the bounce and lets it fly from deep netting 14 points. Jamaria Clark is a smooth scoring guard that finishes acrobatic layups scoring 11 points. In the second half Dekaveon Taylor stepped up huge scoring all of his 15 points.
For the Wisconsin based Team 1848 they suffered a blow when their best player Vincent Vandervest went down with a leg injury after he made some spectacular plays off the bounce in the first half. Emmett Lawton stepped up at the guard spot nailing four triples for 23 points. Anthony Lieuwen had a solid game netting 16 points with a crisp three point shot.
Auburn Raptors Miracle Shot Captures Win at Buzzer in 17U Contest vs Illinois Stars
What a crazy ending here as the Auburn Raptors were down three with seconds to go. Not only did Jaylen Carrington hit the three, but he was fouled in the process. Then stepped up to the line to nail the dagger in a 71-70 win for the Auburn Raptors over Illinois Stars. The backcourt for the Raptors was outstanding all game long. Jacob Wilson and Kelvin Graves are smaller guards that can flat out get buckets. Wilson had 24 points in the victory including four triples and a plethora of runners. Graves had 13 points as the lefty nailed a couple threes of his own.
For the Illinois Stars their top prospect Bryce Coleman had his moments. The Niles Notre Dame wing is a strong small forward that can overpower on straight line takes, post ups, and rim runs as he had 16 points. Early in the game Quentin Schaffer was lights out as the Metea Valley 6’3” wing connected on a ton of threes finishing with 16 points. Late in the game Tre Davis stepped up as the Marian Catholic lead guard came alive in the second half hitting key shots and using his active hands defensively scoring 13 of his 14 points in the second half.
Colorado Titans 2023 Star Guard Shows Out in Finale vs Hoops 4 Health
We caught the first half of this one and once again Aliou Diallo went off as he had 19 points in the first half against Hoops 4 Health in their ultimate 77-51 win. Leader that plays with so much fire and was unstoppable off the bounce getting to the rim whenever he wanted. Range on his shot. This kid that the “it” factor and is without question a D1 prospect.
In the first half we liked what we saw from Xavier Sulaiman for Hoops 4 Health. The combo guard shot it well pulling up from mid-range and three.
