SubscribeCheck out my analysis on some of the top guard prospects who really shined during their time on the court at the Great American Shootout July Live Period in Duncanville! There are plenty of college coaches in attendance, and some of these kids in attendance have a real chance to turn some attention their way.
Michael Daniels 2023 6’5 Liberty Hill High School (ATX Lockdown 17U)
Michael is a skilled combo guard who has an incredibly crafty ability to create space with a live dribble. I was very impressed by his calmness with a live dribble, confidently taking any defender off the bounce and getting to the rim. The threat of him getting two feet in the paint forced a second defender to always slide over to make him give it up. He confidently made the right pass, whether it was kicking it out to the top of the key or making the right cross court pass to an open shooter on the outside. He is a real three level threat, who calmly scores from beyond the arc and in the mid-range, depending on what the defense gives him. Another aspect of his game that stood out was his willingness to move without the basketball, and also run the floor for easy opportunities. Michael has all of the tools to really affect the game in any way he wants, and looks to be an extremely mold-able basketball player.
Kelton Williams Kelton Williams 6'2" | CG Midlothian | 2023 State TX 2023 6’2 Midlothian High School (Gators Elite 2023)
Kelton is a high level guard who really affects the game in a multitude of ways, but mainly off of his incredible athleticism and foot speed that he uses to maneuver around defenders in the open court. His blazing end to end speed makes him a real weapon on his way to the rim. I loved watching him push the tempo on the break, and continuously beat the opposing team down the court, with and without the ball. I was very impressed with his handle, he constantly created space with his crossovers and overall shiftiness. His ability to get around his opponents allowed him to live at the free-throw line as well as the rim. He is not just a slasher however, he has great control on his step back and showed an ability to score in bunches from the mid-range and beyond the arc. He is a confident scorer off the bounce across all three levels.
Rece Hipp 2023 5’11 Rose Bud High School, Arkansas (AR Sharks 2023)
Rece is a shifty point guard with a real ability to create space, but also make the defense pay for relaxed coverage on the perimeter. I loved watching him manipulate his defenders, changing speeds to keep his defender on their toes. His overall craftiness allows him to score in bunches across all three levels of the floor, comfortably attacking the defense and taking whatever they give to him every time down the court. He is deadly when you give him time to set his feet, scoring in bunches around the arc on the perimeter. He is a smart passer and play maker, constantly making the right reads in the open court, as well as creating opportunities for his teammates to quickly get a shot up with his crisp passes.

2023 6’0 Rouse High School, TX (ATX Lockdown 17U)
Cole is a sharpshooting combo guard who can do it all on the offensive side of the ball. He displayed aggression when driving with a live dribble. He is an elite finisher in the lane and displayed crafty euro steps and finishes to evade defenders. I was very impressed with how well he attacked the rim and turned the corner on his opponents. He is a confident player with the basketball and is not afraid to score it on all three levels. He is great at drawing attention and dishing out to his open teammates. He displayed natural point guard instincts in the open court with his decision making and handle. I was very impressed with the change I have seen in him defensively over the last year. He has active hands that poked the ball free from his opponents, allowing him to come up with multiple steals on ball. He baited his opponents into mistakes by playing the passing lanes and angling them towards a second defender.
Peyton Gusters Peyton Gusters 6'5" | SF Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy | 2023 State TX 2023 6’5 Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy (AJ1)
Peyton is a long athlete who has an ability to truly do it all on both ends of the floor. His length allows him to defend all positions on the floor and his foot speed allows him to harass high level guards in the full court. His ability to defend the best players on the court and seemingly tale them away really allowed his defense to take advantage of relaxing a bit more on the defensive end. It allowed his center to stay back in the paint and everyone else just deny the ball when he was on the court. He is a strong trapper of the basketball who uses his ability to seemingly swallow up his opponents by his harassing nature on the ball. On the offensive end of the floor he is a very active player off the ball, he can run off screens, create offense at the high post or flash to the rim. I was very impressed with his willingness to get on the offensive glass, every time a shot goes up he is sprinting and leaping towards the rim at the highest level.
